I don't think it's particularly good for White. The first idea that comes to mind is 4...dxc3 5.Nxc3 d4 looks adequate

The 2011 ChessBase Big Database has 9 wins for White, 13 wins for Black, and 2 draws after 4.e5.  As White, winners included Blackburne and Em Lasker.  As Black, Rubinstein beat Mieses with it.

White's 4.e5? is bad.  Muller and Voigt's "Danish Dynamite" (which I strongly recommend to any serious player on either side of this complex line) simply cites Lasker - Schulz, Hanover 1903:

Lasker won that game, but the authors think he was busted, which sounds about right.  Black has simpler ways to play if he likes.  The easiest might be 5...d4 6.Nb5 Nc6 7.Nf3 Bg4, which they also give.  Black can also simply play in Nimzovich fashion with 4...Nc6!? 5.cxd4 Bf5!? (there are many 5th move alternatives -- and maybe Black wants to wait for Nf3 and play Bg4 -- a good waiting move could be 5...Nge7 or 5...Bb4+ followed by Nge7, O-O, f6, Bg4 to pin a Knight at f3, and Nf5 with lots of pressure on White's center.

i think i like that nimzowitch idea with waiting for white to move Nf3 before Bg4. thanks for the effort:)
