What do you guys think of this - is this worse than Nf3 or e3?
I've seen this somewhat often in response to the Queen's Gambit:
I'd think that there are better ways to play QGD, since after e4 White has a rather imposing center with Black having to retreat his knight. Just wondering if you guys have any experience with playing / playing against the above opening.
- in the first diagram, 3.e4 is fully playable
- in the second diagram, I have limited experience of this variation, but it's generally considered slightly better for white because of 4.Nf3 followed by 5.e4 (4.e4 allows 4...Nf6 5.Nc3 e5 which is unclear)
The first diagram is a perfectly playable, aggressive version of the QGA. The second diagram is bad for black as white just plays e4 with tempo.
I suppose I should ask that in the first diagram, after e4, what's a correct response for Black?
3...Nf6; 3...Nc6; 3...e5 or 3...c5 are all playable
