Why did they even take the time to name it?

Can I get help with naming this variation of the smith-morra gambit?

How about the mentally challenged variation that LOSES 3 PIECES?

 What part of this thread indicates anyone is interested in more of these openings except to learn how NOT to post about ridiculous openings.

It's called the "Hammerschlag." Here's a game.

Actually it's called "Barnes Opening: Hammerschlag VARIATION" ;)

I've never had this Ampel opening played against me, but I think I would just carry on as normal and respond with Bg4.
