Hasn't the modern benoni been almost refuted by the taimanov variation?

 No, it hasn't.  White has had some crushing wins, but if Black knows what he is doing, he should be fine

Try the semi-slav, basing from the statistics it is fairly ok and the volume of variations to consider not that hard to master. Anand won over Kramnik last year in the World Championship Match by using one of the variation - THE MERAN.

I play the Semi-Slav, and it seems fairly theoretical to me. White has soooo many choices... the Meran, Moscow, Anti-Moscow, Exchange, etc.

Might try 1.d4 e4 2.dxe4 Nc6 3.Nf3 Qe4 if you dont mind breaking the guidelines for opening chess. Although GM Glen Fleer told me that if your going to play the Englund Gambit, it would be better to stick with the Budapest it is played at Pro Levels.

"The Bozo-Indian" actually would be the Chigorin Defense.

The Bozo-Indian, of course!  (1 d4  Nc6).  Basically a mirror image Alekine's Defense.  Quite playable and great fun.

 i thought bogo was 1.d4 nf6, 2.c4 e6, 3.nf3 bb4+...im a d4 player and i haate facing the budapest albin or benoni....  :P

 "Bozo", not "Bogo"...

Bozo = Bogo + Nimzo.

The Djin is  a good surprise weapon. And that also goes for alot of ...a6 lines in the kings indian etc etc.

I hadn't heard of the Bozo Indian before - funny Smile

1d4 c5 2 d5 f5   the so called "Clarendon Court" - an indulgent named opening in my opinion. Should be called the Dutch Benoni or something similiar. In practice white often wimps out after 1d4 and plays something like 2 e3. Bear in mind many club players don't intend playing 2 c4 after 1 d4, so things like the Budapest aren't any good against the Colle or Tromp for example Smile

The Bozo could transpose to the Chigorin of course after 2. c4  d5 BUT if White chooses to chase the Knight with 2 d5 it's a whole different animal.
