The Matovinsky Gambit
The correct line:
Black should play 9...Bxf3 cuz 9...Bxh1?? leads to a nice mate in 12 moves starting with 10. Bh6!!
The correct line [2]:
and white should win this game. That's the refutation of the Matovinsky gambit!
The 365chess.com opening explorer shows 65% white vs. 19% black wins after 6...Bg7. Chessbase even has 100% white wins after 7.gxh7+. I went through a few variations with Stockfish, and although there's no clear win for White, I realized that if White doesn't outright blunder, Black has to play EXTREMELY accurate not to lose fast.
I mean sure, you can of course play whatever you want, including this opening as Black, and I'm sure you can even win against low-rated players. It's still a really idiotic opening that teaches you nothing about good, inspiring, beautiful chess -- no matter how many pseudo-analyses (leaving out this or that critical move) you post here.
This opening is pretty cool. I like it and i think you will like it.
Great black defense.
