It gets even better if black tries to hold onto the rook with na6

Yes, and remember 8. ... Bg4 since that is what Black wil probably play.

I could well be wrong, but I think that line up to move 10 or so is known in the UK as the Milner-Barry gambit. M-B was one of the group of mathematicians and cryptanalysts (many of whom were chess players as well) who did the codebreaking at Bletchley Park.

Very nice. I saved the game for future study. I've never played the Vienna game, but will begin learning it. Again, thanks and high quality post. Smile

Really? I might be wrong , but I thought the Milner-Barry Gambit was a gambit in the French Advance. Goes like this (with the order not necessarily being the same):

you're right iaeuy. I just googled M-B and openings, and the M-B gambit is a line in the French. He also has a line named after him in the Nimzo-Indian, and one in the Petrov. Everything but the Vienna!

With regards to the original game posted, Black has improvements around move 11 or 12.

    12...Bxf3 is definitely just bad.

I know thats how white won the game , black took with the bishop on f3 because he thought that after the exchange he could take on d4, but then comes the deadly check :p
