What kind of opening is that and how to react  agains it. I dont play open sicilian so i cannot play 3.Nf3 because it's direct transposition. I don't like dxc5 either, so what to play then:)

You can also tranpose to a Schmid Benoni with d4-d5 or an Alapin Sicilian with c2-c3. My guess is the same as yours--Black is angling for a Sicilian--so if you're not comfortable playing the Sicilian I would probably go with d4-d5.

known as the franco benoni or normal french I'm pretty sure d4-d5 is your best bet.

d5 is def. ur best move in the position!

Personally, I hate playing against the French defence, but relish the opportunity to play against the Sicilian (I play it myself, so have some idea of what to do). So after

1 e4 e6

2 d4 c5

I breathe a sigh of relief and play

3 Nf3

if 3 .... cxd4

I then play 4 Nxd4 if the opposition is strong

or 4 c3 (transpose to Smith-Morra Gambit) if the opposition is weak (or short time control, especially against older players).

Hhhhmmm Nf3 turns it into a sicilian style opening. d5 turns it into some kind of benoni. c3 is i have no idea opening hahaha but its fairly solid too. It depends on how u like ur positions, wether they are more open so as more freedom of attack from both sides or closed to play positional and build preasure....
