What defense did my opponent play here?

Hi everyone, I was recently playing a live chess game (playing as white) here on chess.com when my opponent's defense kind of threw me for a loop.  I'm somewhat of a true beginner, so there are tons of openings/defenses that I haven't seen, but I couldn't really pick out any advantages to this one.  It allowed me to very freely develop all of my pieces toward the center, and didn't appear to accomplish much for him. If any of you could clue me in as to what my opponent was trying to do here (if anything), that would be much appreciated:

Thanks in advance for your insight!

I suppose that after move 6 there is the advantage of having both knights fianchettoed, but it seems very slow-developing and it definitely doesn't look like it makes a strong attempt to control the center. Not a defense that I'll be playing any time soon Foot in Mouth
