yeah its because Ba3 is better, so e6 doesnt actually block the bishop
What is wrong with this move (6.Bg5)?
Sort:
After 6.e3 6.O-O, isn't 7.Ba3 not very effective? Doesn't black just gain a tempo of sorts playing 7.Rd8, which he would want to play eventually anyway?
In a recent game that I played as white, the above sequence of moves was played. When I went back to analyze after the game, I was surprised to find white's 6.Bg5 pinning the knight to the queen was considered an inaccuracy by the computer, and was only played 1 out of 82 times in grandmaster play.
Can somebody please explain what is wrong about this move?
Also, the move that computer DOES recommend is 6.e3 for white. This seems somewhat counterintuitive because it blocks in the dark-squared. It's mostly theoretical this early in the game, but why is that move correct?
