What can white play here besides the fried live attack and d3???
he can play d4 exd4 0-0 or d4 exd4 ng5, or he can simply castle. d4 exd4 e5 is another option. These are just the ones that come to mind. Castling will probably transpose to something else though.
So most other options will be gambiting a pawn or two but gaining tempo for them? Like d4 - exd4 Maybe even c3 after that? This also means that the e pawn is lost right?
p-d4 or n-g5 are o.k. personally i prefer d4,gives mor options i think
most of these lines aren't really gambits since white has ways to regain his material. For example the d4 exd4 0-0 nxe4 line leads to equailty as white can take advantage of the pin on the e file. There's also d4 exd4 0-0 bc5, but this goes e5 d5 exf6 dxc4 and white gets a pawn on g7.
But black can solidify the knight with d5
He can't really. The line goes e4 e5 Nf3 Nc6 Bc4 Nf6 d4 exd4 0-0 nxe4 Re1 d5 Bxd5! Qxd5 Nc3 and he gets the knight back and will eventually get the pawn on d4. This is actually a known opening which is OK for both sides.
merci for that, will definitely try it out.
d3 is pretty solid in this position. it isn't very cutting-edge, but it gets the black bishop out and protects the e-pawn. :)
Wouldn't it be better to recapture the d pawn first? Black can hold on to it with his black bisshop
