Fischer played the king's gambit in three tournament games, all of them after 1961 which is when he published that article.

In the queen's gambit you can go into the Catalan, which is the only system that ever interested me from d4.  Stuff the pawn, look at that long diagonal.

I stopped playing the King's Gambit because of the Berlin Defense to the Kieseritzky Gambit, but I certainly prefer the White Side of the Fischer Defense.

just because an opening is unsound at higher  levels of play doesnt mean that it isnt alright for us amateurs to use. i would say either gambit is fine although its fair to say that the queens gambit isnt really a gambit since you get your pawn back ;)

I like to play Evans Gambit, I think it is pretty agressive and it suites my attacking style

Playing white on King's Gambit (accepted):

    1. e4 e5

    2. f4 exf4

    3. Nf3

Like many of you, I'm an amateur who likes trying new stuff. I have recently started using the King's Gambit, with mixed results:

    1. e4 e5 2. f4 gets things started.

    KG Accepted is pretty interesting...

    2. ...exf4

As white, 3. Nf3 keeps that pawn from continuing his march, but more importantly, it prevents 3. ...Qh4+

Further development priorities include the obvious 3. d3 whether the Gambit is accepted or not.

Punch those first few moves into Chessbase, or the opening explorer on this web site, and give it a try at your local chess club, or online.

Look at the greco attack line of the italian game.  I think it could be classified as a gambit.

Look at the Ghetto-Gambit. Very unorthodox, and intimidating.
