what the first step in starting a school chess club ages 8 and up?

There is an unofficial club at my school. Start by making an unofficial one, find a room that's empty at lunch break, leave a bag with chess sets at school and tell some friends, get them to tell some people. Once you have a decent amount of people coming to the club try and get the school to put it in their announcements or newsletter.
