Hello,

I live in a real boomtown. People usually come here solely for work (I say usually because it's slowed down due to recession). There isn't really much to do in town aside from going to watch a movie or watching the local hockey game. I've thought about starting a chess club for some time now, but I don't really have any idea how to go about doing so. I'm sure the community has enough individuals that would be interest, so finding members wouldn't be difficult. Getting boards and a place to play would be the difficult part. Has anybody started their own community club or anything like that? Any suggestions would be very helpful as the nearest chess club is 400 km away. I'm not exadurating!

Usually chess players will have their own boards. I would find the other chess players first and then try to find a place to play. The chess club I belong to occasionally meets at a bookstore with a coffees shop.
