Aronian versus Kramnik
I hope Ar-onion does beat Krammo and maybe go on to lift the world championship, i'd say Levon is still improving
I actually thought that Kramnik was on the way out, early last year, but he seems be just as good as ever. So, though I think Aronian should be playing Carlsen for the world championship next month, if Aronian loses this match, then I don't know if he'll be considered on Carlsen's level anymore.
Aronian will be the people's favourite as his style is more entertaining.
The two games I posted are very entertaining! I think Kramnik is very much admired in the chess world, so I don't see Aronian as being the clear crowd favorite.
the 2nd game was great, trysts.. Levon is really at home with a rook and minor piece versus Queen, he demolished Naka similarly
Yes! I'm playing through all of their decisive encounters right now. It's a lot of fun, and I'm getting more excited about the match!
When I play through the games of the masters I always look for 1.e4 openings, since I can understand those more readily than the queen pawn openings. Of the 41 games they played against each other, only two e4 openings have occured. One Spanish, and one Sicilian.
I am definitely supporting Kramnik (I am a Kramnik fanboy)
Kramnik FTW
Any score predictions, Professor?
Kramnik is one of the all time greats. Will we be saying that about Aronian?
I hope so. Carlsen and Aronian is like Kasparov and Karpov. All everyone does is talk about Carlsen (like they did Kasparov), when if you looked at their match records they had virtually equal scores up until the late 90's or so. Karpov was neck and neck with Kasparov for hundreds of match games but Kasparov got almost all the fame. It's the same with Carlsen. Him and Aronian have been neck and neck and Carlsen is getting all the fame, even though both are young and clearly ahead of the rest of the pack (not counting the older giants like Kramnik/Anand)
Yes, I am a fan of Aronian :-)

umm... lost me here fyy0r. What's Carlsen have to do with this ?
Does anyone think that those two are not going to go all out to win this match? Just like the above two comments imply, this seems like a match they would both want to win!
Guarantee they will both be competitive Trysts. Geographically they are close & this contest will be fiercely-fought.
Kramnik... well he's very tough to beat :)
Aronian... plays with flair so maybe he can.

He has to do with my statement in response to the post I quoted
Vladimir Kramnik and Levon Aronian, two of the grandmasters to ever break the 2800 rating barrier, will play a friendly match 21-28 April in Zurich. The venue of the event will be Hotel Savoy Baur en Ville at Paradeplatz and is sponsored by IGC International Gemological Laboratories and Aspeco N.V.
It will be an exciting encounter between the two players in form right now – Kramnik won London Chess Classic, while Aronian won Tata Steel Chess.
The match is preparation for Kramnik and Aronian for the upcoming Candidates Tournament in 2012. Classical time control will be used, with a new twist for the show – if the game ends in a draw in under three hours, the players have to play a rapid game (25 minutes with a 10 second increment).
The timing of the match is also interesting as it starts near the end of the World Amateur Chess Championship and finishes just a few days before the World Chess Championship 2012, a conglomerate of events that triggers a very exciting second half of the chess calendar this year.

I am quite excited about this match, and I just started checking out the statistics of their past encounters. Strange to me is that Kramnik has a statistical advantage against Aronian, since they started playing each other in 2005. Their record against each other, according to Chessgames.com, is:
Kramnik leads in classical games, 4-1-11
Kramnik leads in rapid/exhibition games, 9-7-9
I'm not sure if this "friendly match" is under the heading of exhibition games, or classical?
Anyway, I just started looking into their games against each other so maybe throughout the course of the week I can add some more fun statistics! I really like match play, and I have no doubt that these two amazing chess players will take this match quite seriously.
The match starts in six days, April 21st, the same day as the Barcelona vs Real Madrid game! That will be a nice day not to work, for sure!
I pick Aronian to win the match, but I haven't decided on the score yet. Please feel free to give whatever impressions you have of the match.
