I don't really honestly know. All the World Champs were talented and good but the, "Best of the Rest" topic shall always exist. 

Agreed. Anyone good enough to hold World Champion status, no matter for how long, is darn fine in my book.

I don't think that derailed the post as much as gave the impression of infitration by a troll.

Some that should be on the world champion list aren't: Rubenstein, Keres, Korchnoi (?). Maybe Fine & Reshevsky were up there also. I don't think the 16 world champions are the best 16 players.

That's true. There are many unsung heroes of the chess world.

Yeah, I'd probably rank Korchnoi, Keres or Bronstein ahead of someone like Euwe...and don't get me started on the "FIDE tournament cycle champions" like Khalifman...

Really! I know right? Ponomariov, Khalifman, Topalov, & there's another I think: whatzizname.

Don't forget Aron Nimzowitsch.  He may never have been a WC, but he and the others in the Hypermodern school of chess developed the ideas used by all WC's after them.
