By "top", do you mean superGM level? If that is what you mean, it's probably too late. However, I believe, a gifted person would rapidly improve no matter when they start. You can put in an year's effort and if you don't improve substantially, you can forget about making it to the top. However you can most likely still reach 2000+ levels through hard work. It would be even tougher for you since there aren't many fide organized tournaments in pakistan. You have to travel a lot throughout the world to maintain a strong rating , even if you manage to improve. I'm not trying to discourage you, but believe me, it's not worth it. It's much better to enjoy the game and play it just for fun.

Your question is not complete. You just say "thirteen". But is it thirteen years old, or thirteen months, or maybe thirteen weeks ? Probably not thirteen centuries. Please be clear, thanks. I have to say that level is not a matter of age, but a matter of talent and work... My Elo was 2850 hen I was six year old, but I am now about 1800, because I didn't work at all. You see...

I think the first thing you need to do is finish the games you start here. I was looking through your history to see if you had played any games that showed any promise. I was distressed to find that most of your games average 15 moves and then you abandon them.

This is your only live standard game I could see. The game PGN says it was a 30 minute game that you abandoned, which means that your opponent probably had to sit around for 20 minutes waiting for you to reply for no reason. Out of nine online games, six have ended with timeouts on your part.

If you want help, you have to be polite to other players. You are dealing with real people here (for the most part) who get upset when you quit for no reason after starting a game.

Even if you are only thirteen, you are old enough to understand this.

Chess.com is a great place with many fine people that will provide a lot of help to you if you don't abuse them.

There are many chess players younger than 13. You need to play at a level you are comfortable with. Play with friends... Analyze your moves but keep practising. Read chess books . You will improve. Play the longer games so you have more time to think and do not abandon games. You need to lose to learn so keep playing

By the way I usually play on internet chess club.I started chess at age 14 and after 6 months I am rated 1839 on internet chess club. DO you think can I become a grandmaster in less than 5 years if I put a lot of effort and hardwork.

I don't believe that 5.. Qa5 in the game above could have been played by someone rated 1839.

//And after I checked, I see that Aqibbutt's blitz rating on ICC is 709 based on 15 games and Aqibbutt1's blitz rating was 797 based on 395 games. Other ratings are similar. (Is Aqib Butt a common name in Pakistan?)

//A low rating is not the end of the world. You are (probably) still young. (I say probably because some of the things you've said don't check out.)

Why not just try to have some fun, learn a little and see how it goes?

Then if you play more complete games, someone will be able to make an intelligent assessment of your chess and whether or not you would benefit from intense study. In the mean time, if you find yourself yourself thinking about chess ten hours a day, the decision will be made for you. You will probably not make Grandmaster but few do. Try to have fun.

if you want to be a a serious competitor, then yes, 13 y/o is too late.

but for the average joe, if all you do is play for fun, then no age is too late to join chess.

I started playing chess at 18, and am now 20 and nearly 2000 USCF. If one studies and has a good natural understanding, I don't doubt someone could start at 13 and go on to become an extremely strong player.

I just started playing at 30. I know I won't ever be as good as the top players but it has been so fun to play. Learn how to have fun before you learn how to win.
