I know this happened a while back, but it is just amazing. He's 18 (I believe) and he is ranked #2 in the world. Only the 4th player in history to break to 2800 boundary. Can this kid be stopped?

Maybe by Anand or Topalov, but I can't see anyone else doing so.

Well, he's currently playing Kramnik as White, and looked to be in a lot of trouble. But perhaps it's cleared up now.

IF he maintain kasparov as his trainer I think he can be the first OTB player to crack 2900.He is only 18!! not even in his chess prime.Thats 10 years away!!

     He's the 5th player to break 2800.

Kasparov, Topalov, Kramnik, Anand, and now Carlsen.

    Im watching it atm..

It looks bad for White (Carlsen)... ,

Highest chance is a draw.. but it looks like Black is gonna win if a draw cannot be forced.

Kramnik sac'd a rook for a bishop and a pawn, now hes much better.

Carlsen with 35 minutes on his clock and Kramnik with 25..

I was cheering for Carlsen to win now im praying for it to draw.

According to Fritz 6 on playchess black has a -0.44 advantage, here is the position

BLUNDER!, Carlsen now is losing by -1.66

    48... c3

    49. Rhc7?

According to fritz c2 is a good move, Rxh5 makes it kinda draw again.

I've seen Carlsen on the news since he was 13 (I'm Norwegian) and now I realize why the news network actually spent so much time covering his career! He's freaking awesome!! He's going to surpass the 28000 limit in no time! Laughing

He can play all the openings, he studies with Kasparov and he's 18!!!

I was hoping Kramnik would win it, he's not very liked/respected and I think he deserves more admiration.

Must have been downwards, even if by just a couple points, as Carlsen is higher rated than Kramnik. But we shouldn't hang off every point as though it's the most important thing in the world. Wink

Am I the only one not caught up in the Magnus hype?

maybe, maybe not.  it seems the whole chess world keeps an eye on this young master.  whether or not we are all caught up in the "Magnus hype" im not sure, but the general census is that he is something special
