Yeah, she's a WGM, her page says 'Grandmaster, Olympic Champion' rather than making the distinction.

I think its because of this:

    Grandmaster of Russia (2006)

Not FIDE, but her national federation, as you were guessing (I guess that that was your guess).

Jason, am I reading your FIDE link wrong or doesn't it correctly state she has a woman Grand Master title?

Or were you simply making the distinction between the regular grandmaster and woman grandmaster titles?

    Just trying to understand.

It´s okay to make the distinction, since WGM and GM are different.

performance required for a WGM norm is 2400.

performance required for a GM norm is 2600.

elo required for the GM title is 2500.

elo required for the WGM title is 2300.

I don't know why, but I'm still nominating this thread starter for a Chess.com Troll of the Year 2013.

Well... so far you haven't nominated the OP on the official nominations thread yet. Your nomination will only be counted if you post it there.

Try to find pictures of a young Krammnik or Ivanchuk in a speedo or spread out on the floor wearing some designer jeans... that's the difference.

I can't but agree with Wafflemaster.

But... but... but... We are trying to attract some people to our local Reader's Digest club. What if I went in my underwear? For the sake of literature of course. Wink

Ivanchuk has enough charisma btw, he doesn't have to go half naked. Cool

Sex Sells, since at least the Neolithic Revolution, about 12,000 years ago.

You'll get used to it, eventually.

    Has Elubas hacked your account?

The difference, as our friendly 'borg pointed out, is that half naked ladies bring in the bucks.  Half naked bucks don't.

Don't get me wrong, WGM is basically just a FM.  So if I were her at ~2500 FIDE I would feel like the WGM title is beneath me too.

The secret to her success is a good love life... lol.

She gained 300 points from 2001-2002 ages 16-17.

In 2009 she married and her rating hasn't improved since.

The secret to her success was learning at an early age just like everyone else... why do people bother being so silly?  And when they're silly why do others bother printing it as if it means anything?  Why do people who read it not laugh?

I was responding to the silly post by that 400 guy.

I guess the basis of all this is I like to respect strong players and it conflicts with my not having any respect for someone who markets themselves that way.  You might as well show up to the board dressed like a clown IMO.

Yeah, just my personal dilemma, I didn't need to say anything.  She's free to make her own decisions.

Perhaps her husband should be concerned at her lack of improvement then.
