what's up with players ,who are activly involved in games until they start losing and it's obvious they have very little chance of a win, who begin only making one move every 3 days or so to prolong the inevitable. why not activley play to the end or resign. i dont get it, let me know if i'm off base here , just seems like poor sportsmanship.

They're just idiots, hoping you'll get bored and resign...

I'm sure a few are just thinking their moves through a few days before they move. Others are just ****'s. There's no good way to tell.

If it's really such a big problem maybe live chess is better suited for your taste. I try not to let it get to me, it's just a game...

I agree with Drecon, and add that if you are winning, then they are well-suited to think their moves through more than they have previously been. This would lead to longer times thinking in-between moves. If they were losing and kept playing at the same pace, then they have a good chance of losing. However, if they take their time to try and turn the tables, then they have a better chance of winning. I have been winning on a number of occasions, and my opponent began taking their time, only to turn the tables on me later. There is a reason that you agree to the time limit when you accept a game.

The reason is psychological.  The player who is losing is very irritated, and so decides to make you irritated as well.  This is a very immature attitude.  The best thing to do is ignore it.  If you complain, you justify the bad behavior, because then the opponent has been successful in irritating you.

You must control your own attitude, and not let others do so.  You are master of your own psychological viewpoint.  If you allow yourself to be irritated by an anonymous Internet individual you will never meet, then you need to do some introspection.

Regards, Zug

There may well be many people who time waste when losing, but there will also be  lots of people with good reasons to slow down or have genuine holidays that just coincide with losing a chess match. Only way to be sure is to check how quickly they play their other games, where they still have some chances.

i see your point, not trying to contradict myself just observing obvious bad sportsmanship i could do 1 day per move but 3 is the default and i never think to change it. furthermore to elaborate, the times ive been bothered by it is when i am having a great time playing back and forth at a relativly fast clip and all the sudden nothing...3 days later 1 move...3 days later.......and so on.not whining at all, i think chess.com is awesome.
