Tactics training

Hi all,

I'm 22 and I'm relatively new to online chess. I just started playing y in March. When I first started tactics trainer I was god awful and was averaging less than a 50% pass rate every day when I would sing on to do tactics puzzles. Slowly but surely over the course of 3 months I managed to revive my tactics rating from the depths of <1000 to 1576 but just yesterday had one of the most terrible tactics days of my life dropping my rating 100 points. I'm starting to really doubt that this drop in rating is due to chance and perhaps I was just getting lucky earlier on to get to my 1576 rating. My goal in life is to get to a 2000 rating and understand that chess takes time and is a life long committment I'm a patient person and am willing to train for about an hour day. I'm studying for the mcat and want to be a doctor in the future but miss playing chess in my my youth back when I was in elementary school.

I'm wondering how many players online are similar to me in that they learned the rules of chess at a young age but never got serious about studying the game until they were in their 20s. I guess I just want to know if I'm wasting my time trying to get decent at the game this late in life. When I was younger I chose piano and soccer instead of chess as my main activities and got decent at both before giving up piano for soccer and then soccer for studying in college.

Anyways, I'm just fishing around to see if there's anyone out there with experience like myself who has some tips and pointers and could help out a fellow millenial improve his chess game. Anything helps at this point. Please add me as a friend! I'm looking for people to play games with!

Cheers,

S

Of course you're still young enough. Going to med school and becoming a competent doctor will require mastery of even more complicated and arcane data than becoming a chess expert.

Nobody says that you have to apply to med school when you are 10.
