I like to mention the name of Mikhail Tal in this place. We also knew what attacking is...

Of course, everyone here neglects Alekhine, his attacking games in volume were the best in chess history. Tal was the flashiest, but his sacrifices were not always sound. I hate amateurs who say Mikhail Tal was the best attacker ever.

What about pros ? ....

If you aren't a pro,by your own logic your opinion is irrelevant on the subject and thus shouldn't be here in the first place.....you really should clearly think the sequence through first... I am amazed you have a chess rating so high with a usual thought process like that...it is also rather arrogant to treat others as if they aren't intitled to an opinion that has any validity, unless it meets with your approval.... I know some folks who'd like to keep an eye on you.... nice tactics trainer rating btw....

I didn't mean to come off like that btw, I just have that opinion Tal is not the best attacker, i may have not said it in the most polite manner so my bad.

I have to go with Nezhmetdinov, as players above mentioned. Though he never became a titled player, the victories he did have were incredible.

(That's what happens when you only learn one aspect of a game that has many.)

FIDE conferred the International Master title on Rashid Nezhmetdinov in 1954 after his second place finish in an international tournament at Bucharest, his one and only trip outside the Soviet Union.

I found another thread on this: Top 10 attacking players.

i would think kasparov, tal and nezmetdinov

Bobby Fischer! Hands Down!

ofc i would also say bobby fischer was the greatest attacker. But because fischer played best moves and sound moves you cant characterize him as attacker i think.

i think you have to play dubious moves to be a great attacker.

I nominate Judith Polgar as the best attacking chess player.

I would have to say this honor goes to Bobby Fischer, this man was always after the other King like no other player He always came out playing to win. A close 2nd I would have to say Mikail Tal the Magician!

This is one I don't think I've seen yet.

I don't know if anybody posted this yet, but the emu had mentioned a guy in the 1974 Canadian tournament who kicked his opponent in the groin... Then again, i think that was after he had lost.

Nah, that was not Fischer style.

sure but we should still consider him an attacker. nice king attacks he had still

TetsuoShima

his high pressure style and his fight till the last pawn has gone you could still consider attacking. i mean more then you could just call him a classical player

I think that if youre looking purely attacking players then the best would be tied between Nezhmetdinov and Tal but on the other hand they both had their problems and such names as Robert Fischer, Garry Kasparov, Paul Morphy etc might come as players whom have had some of the best attacking games of all times but also Tigran Petrosijan was great in the sense that he never attacked unless had he calculated utter and complete victory when so his attacks were so simple that it made them elegant. My personal favorite of all time I can not nominate alltough Mikhail Botvinnik who was born in todays Finland ranks pretty high allso boyhood heroes Bobby Fischer and Capablanca would propably be pretty high on my list of best attakers. You should go google "youtube killegar chess:best games of all time" those are super amazing.

waffllemaster

Fischer and Capablanca are high on your list of best attackers?  I think they're high on the list of I'm going into a winning endgame and my opponent doesn't realize it until 10 moves later.
