When creating a 960 challenge, it would be nice if we had the option to create a pair of games with the same starting position so both players have the opportunity to play white. In head-to-head matches it's especially important because there are certain starting positions where white has a significant advantage.
Edit:
If any of the staff read this, I also think that the Game Type drop-down box shouldn't be hidden under Advanced Options. If the drop-down was visible by default I suspect it would eliminate many of the "How do I play 960" forum posts.
I agree. And is it me or does the conditional move not work on 960? Everytime I try, my conditional board is about 3 to 4 moves behind the actual game.
That conditional move glitch happens to me too. I'm sure it's been reported.
I agree. I'd also like the ability to filter the challenges I accept based on seperate rating fields for regular chess and 960. Great job overall though, Chess.com staff
How do I participate in the 960 series?? ... I'm at a loss..
Under Advanced Options in the new game window, you'll see a drop-down box where you select the type of game you want to play. Chess 960 is one of the options. That's all there is to it.
Instead of having the ability to create a white/black, there should be the ability to create with a specific seed instead of random. That way the rematch can be with specific colors with specific seed.
That would work too if the starting position # was visible somewhere.
Then you could prepare openings, which kinda ruins the point.
I like the idea of being able to choose the position. It only ruins the point if you want it to, the default would still be random. You could set up N game matches using the same position. You could even set up some interesting theme tournaments.
But if 2 games happen at the same time, can't one person simply copy the other person's move?
Yes. That's a very old technique which allows anyone to be able to have even scores against even the strongest players in the world, but a) at least on this site, if that's a serious problem, you can probably use the time limits to deviate at some point and b) people playing for fun usually don't do that because you can't really hope for better than splitting the points
It's also a reportable offense. I'm not sure if it's spelled out in the rules or not but the staff have intervened in at least one case where this was attempted.
Is it possible to play chess960-votechess?
