It might be a good idea to start the PGN files for 960 games with FEN notation to describe the starting position - similar to how thematic games export now. (I know there's also Scharnagl codes, but I don't know how many chess applications can understand those...)
As it stands, the PGN that gets mailed to me when a game ends isn't worth much.
On a related note, where did the FEN field go for 960 games? I'm not aware of anything about 960 (or FEN) that makes them incompatible (?).
Cheers!
I agree this. I´m not very kind on chess 960 probably because I have never tried it seriously.
Bye
The PGN file that you get from selecting "download PGN" in the moves tab has the starting FEN and the "Variant" tag according to standard. For example the headers from one of my games look like this.
[Event "1st Chess 960 TOURNAMENT"][Site "Chess.com"][Date "2009.06.30"][Round "1"][White "DaveShack"][Black "swordoflaban"][Result "*"][WhiteElo "2246"][BlackElo "1400"][TimeControl "1 in 3 days"][Variant "Chess960"][SetUp "1"][FEN "nbrkbqrn/pppppppp/8/8/8/8/PPPPPPPP/NBRKBQRN w KQkq - 0 1"]
Ah, interesting... The post-game mail-out version I got the other day didn't include those fields. Thanks, DS.
