Actually, I have beat people - with Black - who normally beat me in regular chess. There are no book lines - only creativity to lean on.
Yes, it's a complete wast.
chess 960 helps with unstereotyped chess planning skills, or so I am told.
One day, all chess will be 960.
You heard it here first.
I respectfully disagree :).
Capablanca wanted to change chess back in the 1920s by adding new pieces and squares to the board. He thought he'd played it out. Then Fischer basically thought the same thing, and invented 960, but classical chess outlasted him as well. Even at the highest levels, I 'suspect' the game is of sufficient depth not to need reinventing for a long, long time - if ever.
I say "suspect" because at my level of play, I can only speculate about what the super GMs know! :)
No way to know if ciljettu or myself will stand corrected someday ... only the future will change one of our minds! But, I hope I'm not wrong ... not a big fan of 960, personally ...
Having said that, if you enjoy playing it ... go ahead and enjoy playing it! If you find it more fun than classical chess, then why not?
The only variant of chess I have ever seen that I truly hated trying:
Took 30 minutes to get the initial ideas down...do not like this style :-)
wow. that's very, um, instring.
where did you get the photo?
Time is relative to your point of reference. It exists only in the mental appearance of the passage of phenomena. Therefore, time exists only as a abstract idea. It cannot be wasted.
Google images - type "Star Trek Chess".
I hate Star Trek Chess! This guy brought one of those boards to the chess club one time, and he almost cried if no one would play with him. I went to play with him, but I kept having to read the directions to figure out when to move a piece (or a piece of the board, as the board pieces can also be moved). Really didn't care for it :-)
thanks BirdBrain for your help. (=
chess960 is a waste of time. I don't see how it helps you improve you're actual chess game
