I don't usually post my own seeks, but I troll the board every so often looking for games, and when I see something that suits (rating about 1200-1500, 1 or 3 days per move) I accept it.

Tonight I accepted two games. In both cases, I was black. In both cases, the game was aborted before my first move.

I am just wondering what the reasons are that someone would abort a game that quickly. I'm not upset - just puzzled. Can anyone shed a little light?

Person could be playing too many games, not ready to play, looking for a range of chess ratings, looked at your results and decided not to play, or just goofing around.

I've aborted 2 games.  In the first one I clicked on an open seek but when there had been no move for a couple of days I realised I was playing a 14-day time limit.  My fault, I should have looked.

The second one was a challenge I accepted from another player who failed to move in 24 hours.  It seemed possible other things had come up in the meantime but, again, I didn't want to get involved in what may have been a predictably slow game.

It's not a habit I want to develop and I'll be more careful in future, but is this considered a valid use of the abort function?

yep, that's what it's there for. no hard feelings should come from the abort button :)
