Wow, can't believe nobody complained about this bug to date. It appears there was a nasty bug in that Tactics Trainer that always treated you as a 1200 rated player NO MATTER WHAT. So, if you felt that you were climbing in rating and still getting super simple problems, that's why. :)  I have now fixed it so that the problems you get should be geared much closer to your actual rating!  So if you got bored of the Tactics Trainer already, please give it another go! Thanks!

YaY – thanks JaySmile! (BTW - don’t think anyone would complain, if it’s free – it’s still free, right?)

I noticed something else on Tactics trainer. There is a 10 games per day limit for free, but what constitutes a day is not clear. For example, in GMT+1 where I am, if I play in the evening, I cannot play in the morning next day. And there is no indication as to when the next batch will be available.

I assumed it was based on PST time ?

It actually is just a revolving door type of calculation looking at the past 24 hours. Perhaps we can change it but I thought looking at past 24 hours was the best/nicest way to accomodate users around the globe.

Ah, I see. So it is not quite once a day then. Because every time you play, you have to play later than the last day, up to a point where you need to skip a day essentially. Close enough to a per day allotement, once you know how it works. Thanks for the heads up!

Yeah, I don't know which way is "worse". With the current method...there are times where just waiting a couple hours will allow you to do a few more, with the other way, you'd always have to wait until a certain time before all 10 open up again.

I was wondering why that was, but, I just assumed my rating was not rising because I did not have full access.  Interesting information on the time calculation, however.

What do you mean, "a few more" ? I always had access either to none or to the 10 ?

Edit: I suppose it is because I always play the 10 in a row!

What's this "Tactics Trainer"? Where I can find it? Is it the same as the "Chess Mentor"?

edit: Sorry. Thank you Jay you gave it on the first post http://www.chess.com/tactics

Learn menu, third entry. It is essentially daily puzzles, associated with ratings.

BTW jay, it almost sounded like you were asking for opinions, so I will give you mine: I would rather have a specific time after which I could play my 10 games. I would like it if it were resetting based on my timezone, but I guess this can lead to  people abusing the system by keeping on changing the timezone they live in... Anyways, you have my opinion.

I almost commented on this, but I figured it might be due to the relatively new problem set that there wasn't a good distribution.

I think the Tactics Trainer may be one of the most useful training tools for those of us below expert level. Our games are decided almost wholly by tactics. 30-60 minutes a day with the tactics trainer could really boost your performance. So far it's the one chess.com resource that tempts me to become a member.

It must be another bug. Today I have 4 attempts and on every attempt I got problem number 0021389. I think it's a bug.

lubo I second that.  I am sure that they'll fix it pretty quick.

I had the exact same problem, except the timer was set to 14 seconds :S
