Yeah, but there is financial gain for using bots in WoW. I dont think you understand why they do it. It's not the same motivation as someone using a chess bot on a website like this.
This might explaing the high number of accounts involved in the WoW scandal. That sounds good for chess on the cheating side of the discussion...
It dosent explain it at all. "Botters" use many, many accounts at the same time. Sometimes, up to 40 instances of the game. The more instances of the game the more work you can perform. The more work you perform the more money you can get paid.
If I botted 50 chess.com accounts what do you think I could sell them for? Nearly nothing. When you bot 40 WoW instances, you have 100's of accounts at your disposal. You dont just use these accounts for botting purposes either. You use them to launder money that was stolen from accounts, or money that you're selling from getting it "legitimately" in game. Any accounts that are not banned are then sold.
It's a complex process, botting in MMO's. My masters thesis was done on virtual currency. I even did a phone interview with a guy named John Yantis who ran one of the first main trading forums for virtual property called MySuperSales.com
Cheating on chess.com is done by individuals who need to be validated by a high rating that they did not earn. It's like the millionaire who buys a Ferrarri because they can afford it, vs. a trust fund kid who buys a Ferrarri because they want to look like the guy who can afford it.
It's not the same thing.
thanks, but i think this thread is about chess bots.
lets agree that WoW bots and Chess bots are not the same.
Cool?
