I think that Chess.com should make it that when you win a certain place in a tournament or more, you should either get like a yearly or monthly membership, or get a reward for real life. ( i.e. Money, MP3, ipod, laptops, ect. ) I would try to get this going. I would really like to know the world's opinion on it. Thanks!
Ok, I see your opinion. That is good thinking. I would like to see other opinions too. Thanks!
I would think real rewards is a possibility for big tournaments in the future (a possibility mind you...).
Not that I'm holding out for it, but I could see chess.com having a yearly tournament with some kind of prize at some point. Might be fun to see...
I suggest a little green army man to the winner of major tournaments!
true, but it could be possible...
In the Dream Team there is a tournament where the winner gets a gold membership. But it is gifted by a platinum member.
Isn't there also a tournament being held currently to win a certian amount of Chess Mentor hours?
I think it is fine that small gifts like a membership, or mentor hours can be won in certian site held tournaments, but ipods, laptops, and other electronics would just be two expensive to gift.
Also, what benefit would it have for the site to give away such a large prize? I don't think it would help to create more name recognition, to bring in more paying customers, or have any positive financial effects.
I prefer token non-monetary prizes (like a 1-month membership). There are very few cheaters here... Erik's done at discouraging and eliminating them. I want to preserve that dynamic. The more that's at stake, the more cheaters we can expect. At an in-person chess.com tournament, rules are easier to enforce, so monetary prizes are fine.
But, do you need to win $100 to enjoy the game? In some parts of the world $100 buys more than a tank of gas, and there are people who would be willing to spend 10 min/day online to cheat and claim that money.
