The chess TV idea is interesting; I saw the broadcast on Aug 24. However, the chat window is unadulterated BS -- filled with the usual anonymous morons who want to ruin the site for everyone else. I suggest the next broadcast be monitored and instantly block anyone who behaves stupidly, goes off topic or throws a tantrum.
I'm sureI'll get flamed by the usual crowd in this post too.

Let me go out on a limb- did most of the off topic chat come from non paying members?
We are about to go down a path once traveled before. Although most non paying members are intelligent and courteous, a handful are not and ruin the chat box for others.
I base my (usually non paying) members statement on the fact that most of the non subject related chat is due to, the non paying members.
If the chess.com staff were to filter the chat dialog for the chesstv broadcast for non broadcast related chat, they could then separate that data into paying and non paying members by percentage and let us know if there is any scientific fact to back up my opinion.
I think there should NOT be a chat box open to the public website without a filter through the staff. We (all members) should still be able to type in questions or comments to the presenter, but without a public window that flashes all of them. If questions related to the subject are to be discussed by the presenter they can be addressed during the broadcast after the staff filters them. Then we do not have to see the other posts which have nothing to do with the subject matter.

the chat room looked like what i used to read on live chess when i went there. some people love that 5hit. i don't. i'm not sure what purpose the broadcasts serve. i'm not opposed to the idea i'm just not sure it does much for the site as a whole. anything and everything discussed could have been or has been posted in a thread by erik.
that being said, i'd like to see games broadcasted in that format--actual OTB games. entire games, or shortened ones with all the down time edited out, but either way would be great.

I only caught the end of it, but i think it's an awesome idea. I also think it would be cool to broadcast otb games. This is huge.
the idea of OTB games seems the only potentially awesome thing about it. although it's nifty to see erik sitting there, but beyond being nifty, what did it do?
"Let me go out on a limb- did most of the off topic chat come from non paying members?"
To join the chat room, as i did, you pick an entirely new, temporary nickname. So you're doubly anonymous. So there was no way to tell if anyone was a paid or non-paid member.
I think in addition to a screen name, participants should state their mental age: the average was definitely under 10.

The chat was vulnerable to spammers and strategic name-changing, but it was fun. I liked contributing to the discussion of the problems (and getting called out by IM Pruess when I didn't exactly have the whole line figured out =P)
Naturally that is the reason the chat box is there, it is just annoying to read 5-8 silly comments between intelligent posts. That is why I think a filter is in order. It would take the spammers out of the game and allow the members interested in the subject material to get the most out of the broadcast.

I personally love the idea and hope the whole thing is up and running soon.
what did you love about it? i guess the whole thing, but i'm curious what people got from it.
I like the whole idea, I mean, I think the chat can be more policed, but with a bit of work, it could be really good.
just chatting while we watch erik talk about stuff many of us already know about? i'm not seeing it. like i said, nothing is terrible about it, but it's technology that can be better utilized. do we really want to see erik talk? he's a real dude, i'm sure you could take him out to lunch. although if you're a chick he might need to bring his wife.
ok... i get that. and i'm not trying to hate here but i'm curious what stood out to people. just seeing erik sitting there talking about "stuff"? that did it for you?
ilikeflags, the whole point was to test it and identify probelms, one identified was the lag, I noticed a few puzzles the answers were popping up before the puzzle had even shown on my screen. Now, what they'll do is work out the kinks then try it again, I'm saying when this is past beta, this is going to be a very useful tool and I'll enjoy using it constantly.
It works, now it needs refinement and direction. What it becomes is up to us. What would you like to see, live games? Maybe the membership can vote on two players going head to head, live. I think that would really be interesting.
I eagerly await the "Two Players Enter, One Player Leaves" series!!!
yes it did ilikeflags that was like an interview
you saw it as an interview? it was more like a town hall meeting but not an interview. and that aspect has some potential... i admit that. but as has already been pointed out. the chat room is like a retard fest
as far as testing the idea goes, it went well i agree. let's hope they do great things with it. a weekly erik rant might get a bit spent--although i don't doubt the chess.com faithful will follow suit like lemmings.
is it gonna be only for paying members?
I don't think so adhdkid91, this was for everyone that I could see.
