It sounds like you have found some very compelling evidence that there's a bug. I don't know how often the CC staff troll the general forums here, so it might be worth filing a ticket with your specifics (and referencing the other evidence in the thread). Maybe this time they won't give you such a wishy washy answer.
Also, if it's any consolation, it's been my experience that just because somebody knows how to put togther some web scripts doesn't always mean they're good at math or seeing obvious arithmetic logic errors, ironic as that seems. Sometimes, yes, but not always :-(

Thanks, Metastable. It's been ticketed. I have been told the matter has been brought to the attention of the management. I suppose approval is needed before a programmer is allowed to spend time on it.
Perhaps I should have waited longer before venting my frustration by posting here. The fact that it appears to be so long-standing (by inference from posts by others over a year ago) has led me to the pessimistic conclusion it will never be fixed. I would be delighted to be proven wrong on this point.
I have posted in the chess.com feedback group, and suggest anyone interested discuss this there.

It seems to me that it still is wrong and also I just found that a member (OmarCayenne)has an avg.opp: 0 in online chess. Inactivity seems to be the case there also. I didn't bother to search the right forum in the chess.com feedback group as you didn't give a direct link to the forum. Anyway it is kind of strange that they seem unable to fix this.

He's been locked out of his account for at least a year, so if it's averaged out for the last ninety days, it would indeed be a zero.
Agree that the last 90 days should make it a zero. It was merely an observation that it is 0, even though there is no indication that it is based on the last 90 days.
Okay.
It is not very impressive that chess.com has not bothered to deal with such an obvious bug in over 7 months.

All this reminds me of the old dialogue: The traveller asks the porter
"How much of a tip do you get on average?"
"5 $"
He gives 5 $
"O thank you, you are the first to reach the average!"
Does it look more correct now? Your avg. opp: 1958 doesn't sound too unrealistic.

For problems like this you need to contact the staff directly via Help & Support, and encourage others to do the same if they think they have the same problem. DO NOT count on the chess.com staff routinely going thru the forums to look for complaints, reports about bugs etc because I'm pretty sure they don't - that's why they have members fill out "tickets" to report bugs, glitches, etc.

Elcrotch wrote :'How can it be that chess.com does not have access to a single programmer who can implement trivial arithmetic correctly? Or does this really demonstrate the complete contempt for user feedback over the past 13 months that it appears to?'
They don't have access to that programmer because they are so busy hosting the best chess website on the net for 10 000 paying members and 6.3 million cheap skates like us that are not willing to pay a lousy $99 a year to support them that trivial stuff like that tends to get left behind.
And ?
Just to be sure, you do know this forum was made 8 months ago and a ticket has been sent 8 months ago? No need to talk about that a ticket should be sent again. I just got back here to ask if we believe the problem is solved or not. Elrochs avg. opp: in online chess looks more reasonable now.

I was just looking at my avg scores and saw this
Avg. Opp.:1352.83
Avg. Opponent Rating when I...
Win: 1355 Lose: 1399 Draw: 1380
If the last line (bold) is correct, then woudn't my avg opp (red) have to be somewhere between 1355 and 1399?
