Erik , an open tournament for all players is a feature that I would most like to see from this site. I would like to see the restrictions dropped for entry on an open tournament for time of move, rating score, number of games played, even time-outs. Players new to the site would have an opportunity to learn the features for movements of the pieces as well as special components like Analysis Board while competitive participarting in a potentional World - wide Tournament .
I agree, that's lame!
Holy shoot, I was just going to say the exact same thing! Though tournaments where every player had the exact same (random) position (generated at the very start of the tournament) would be super awesome also.
I support shuffle-chess options even if only for tournaments &/or unrated games at first.
No, I didn't mean everyone plays the same position, that can already be done, but every pair of players play a different position from a list of themes chosen by the TD. This means everyone plays a different random position twice, once as Black and once as White.
Yeah, I'm saying I think that's cool though I also think it would be interesting for everyone to play the exact same position (to see how different games would develop). IMO both would be cool.
This may have been suggested before in previous wishlists, in takeback games can the move taken back be shown?
Perhaps showing in bracket, next to the new move, the move takenback, or possibly have the game annotated, where we can add notes to moves and if none just show the moves being played and if takenback show in braket the move taken back,. and show all moves, including takenback .
Another possibility whem playing a move against an opponent we see the board and to the right of it , 4 boxes, namely: messages, moves, details and notes.
A 5 th box can be added for the annotated game, showing all the moves made as well as the takeback moves and possibly one could add his comments.
Another suggestion is to put an asterix next to the move taken back and again in the new box called :"annotation to the game" we could add comments to the move taken back.
There are are so many ways to do it and certainly programmers can come up with the better solution.
I would greatly appreciate the ability to refer directly to the game explorer when playing online chess (correspondence-style). Either a hyperlink from my game to the corresponding position in the game explorer or the ability to somehow paste FEN's into a game explorer search field would be a great help in learning openings. My understanding is that use of the game explorer for online chess games isn't cheating. I'm sure if I'm wrong I'll be corrected. Thanks!
Also, chess960 would be fantastic!
This is the fifth edition, wow!

I second this motion.
Pas encore mon pote! Not yet buddy!.
The 5th wishlist is currently in the embryonic stage, where all the suggestions are is collected, via member's input with a post.
When the forum closes there needs to be analysis of the posts and then summarizing by category. Follows the selection of most desirable items to proceed with, based on pre-established criteria.
Then comes the publication of wishlist #5 items picked by Erik and his assistants, and when published we will have the fifth edition.
Just to mention it, I have not seen wishlist #4 edition yet or publication of the items selected. The forum was closed on March 25th or 2 weeks ago.
Has anyone seen the publication?
Pas encore!
D'accord: pas encore, mais plutôt, plutard!
On s'entends sur ce point?
My unread posts torment continues. I do realize that most people 85% plus of the members could not care less as they do not read the posts in the forums.
And perhaps they would if not so overwhelming , today only 11 pages and 60% I have no interest in reading.
Keep on the good work who ever you are and keep feeding us invaluable reading posts without any choice. If your programmers know, and I am sure that they do know how to. Just ask them to spend 5 minutes and remove from my unread posts all of the unnecessary duplication, this would be a first step, second is to allow me to skip or remove and never see again the postings that I do not want to read.
Perhaps someone is underestimating the annoyance of having to open hundreds of posts just to get rid of them on the unread forums.
Some people are pack rats and accumulate things for 40 years or more and leave their children the task to sort out the mess. I am a person that like to keep things up to date and remove unnecessary posts.
By the way, why do you keep these 20 old pair of skis and boots?
No value, just get rid of them.
Can I finally, get an answer on this ? or is someone not reading their own forum???
Change the group alerts default so it doesn't start with every box ticked. It just annoys people.
What do I need to do to fined my rating? I would like to play some turn. How Do I do that?
chessme, you need to play some games to get a rating. At the top of the page notice the "Play" link. If you hover your mouse over it you'll see the options to play "Live Chess" (blitz) or "Online Chess" (turn-based). Pick whichever sounds more fun.
The staff has told me they are working on no vacation tournys. While I have never taken a vacation day yet I would be hesitant to join one. An emergency could come up like ISP or hardware problems or even a trip to the hospital. And I would not want to risk forfeiture of tourny games. But one of my group members, tpftroll, had an idea.
Perhaps a limit on total vacation time for players in a tourny could be set by the TD. Maybe 2, 3, or even 5 days to cover a temporary emergency. After that is used up no vacation allowed. That way small emergency vacations could be used if needed without dragging out a tourny with long vacations.
paul211, there are a few options now we have for your unread post problem. You could go to Last Post or you could Track a forum Topic like I do for this one. That way you would get an alert taking you to your first unread post, skipping over the ones you already read, if you keep up with your alerts that is.
If you don't look at a topic for a week or so then you are stuck and it's your problem. And I bet very few who are interested in certain topics do that, they most likely keep up every day so unread posts are not a problem for them. Just seems like too much programming time to waste doing what you want for your problem with sorting thru unread posts. The staff is doing much more important things now. And filtering out what you think are duplicate posts is not something I feel the staff should bother with. Too much time involved and they have to make jugdements which may insult some members if their posts are deleted. What you seem to be irritated about is the general nature of forums everywhere on the Web, you just have to learn to deal with it. Either that or just don't read them.
In the theme editor, three options don't show until after you click save changes.
I'd like to see this changed because it really confused me at first.
The options are:
Navigation Bar & Footer- Middle Background
Navigation Bar & Footer- Navigation Font Color
Panel Colors- Main Panel Title Color
If this could be changed it would save a lot of members new to theme editing confusion.
J'éspere, on verrai, plu tard à +!
A convenient feature would be to be able to send a message to your opponent
directly from the online game page, especially when playing a takeback game.
