Smile...could you add a colorless chess board.  a plain white board with the black line grids.  such a board is used in thai and indian ( shatranj ) chess and it is very appealing.  if you would do this for me i will see to it that ucla loses to byu by 85 points....and as an extra touch...could you replace the ordinary bishops with small elephants...it would look like a shatranj set but would be classical western chess....you could call the board the "south asian board"...i am going to put in two smilie faces to plead my cause for me...they are professional lobbyists with very high fide ratings...SmileWink

it is about a wonderful graphical display of a chessboard that does not have alternate colored squares..just 64 white squares...it looks so nice...and if the bishops were elephant figures it would be so shatranj appearing in style ( but plays of course just like ordinary chess )...what fun to play on such a board...

I think it would be quite a lot harder to play on such a board.  Yell

no...we all know the board so well...it also has the rank and file lettering...and you would not have to use it at all if you did not like it...only those who liked it would use it...quite simple...no problem at all for anyone who did not like it...they would never use or see it..

In some of the alternative chess sets available - when playing on chess.com, there must be a few where the bishops look slightly like elephants (in poor light, with a little imagination)?

the pacifist chess site is a very nice art item...but chess is really more about geometry than war but the staunton design is really fairly benign..

people !    ...people !.... the board is an addition and not a substitution...if you don't like it just never. ever, ever use it...and i do play on shatranj and makruk sites but i want a colorless board for my western classical chess...for me...for

all those who love adventure and novelty...not for those who

want grapefruit every morning for breakfast..

grapefruit goes on the plate...the elephant balances the plate on his trunk....you don't leave grapefruit or elephants in the trunk of your car on a hot day...all sorted out ?...

I made one myself, a customized white board.  At first I had difficulty recognizing dark-squared bishops because they are also on light squares but with many games played I got used to it.

well, a biship is on a diagonal all the time...so it isn't really hard since they have to stay on the diagonal...the elephants used in lieu of the standard bishop move well even though they are both on white squares...
