I was just scrolling through the Chess.com tournaments, and I was thinking about how nice it would be if we could refine our searches with things like "<1700", ">50% full", etc. Then I started trying to join some, and I was reminded that I've recently had a lot of timeouts during a very busy period in my life. How cool would it be if we could choose to be shown only the tournaments that we qualify for instead of going through them all, only to waste our time? How hard would it be for Chess.com to do this? That question isn't in a rude tone. I would really like to know how hard it would be. I don't have experience with programming, or whatever.

Whenever you are logged in, chess.com DOES show only those tournaments you qualify for (in terms of rating).
Okay. I was thinking about for time/move, %timeouts, and all that, too.

I couldn't agree more ... that some sort of tournament-filter--selection-wizard is overdue.
You are asking for a lot of code to be added to the mix for every tournament to meet your requirements. They already show you every tournament you qualify for now. At the moment chess.com has more code to write to just to fix the bugs it has now. It will take a while just to get this new beta system stable. Tournaments have a timeout % on them that is set by whoever created the tourament. You would have to check that when you found one you wanted to join. It also gives you the time control and how many players are registerd for each tourament. Under players, there are 2 numbers, like 60/100, it means that 60 players have registered for a 100 maxium player tournament. It also gives you ratings range. The info is already there. You just have to search for the one you want to join.

That answers my question. Thank you!
It doesn't seem like a priority to me. If you play in a tournamnet it takes 100's of hours of time. You can't spend 10 minutes looking for one you like?
You have a point. I agree that it isn't a priority. It's just an inconvenience, that's all. I would like to get the most for my money, but I'm not trying to throw a fuss about the issue. Just thought I'd bring it up. Thank you for your input.
Be scared then. This is not a high priority as you say. You sound as if you write code. Now that's scary. Any code is simple, just time consuming. With rating ranges that vary from tournament to tournament so dramatically you would need a program to just check every entry then line them all up in the order that is wanted. Time comsuming. There are 12 pages of tournaments. 25 listed per page. Only take a few minutes to scroll down and look for the one you want that fits your ratings range.
@ wants to improve, dont you think your getting your moneys worth now? They could charge more for all the improvements that they have installed so far. But they havent. I think we are already lucky to be on the best site on the internet....
Okay, if you guys want to argue about how easy it is to write code on my topic, that's fine. It pertains to the topic. But please stop with the insults. And don't say that they aren't insults! they are.
Maybe you can write better code in 5% of the time. Maybe you cant. Dont know you and you dont know me. No way to tell. Not worth continuing the coneversation about it either....
Maybe you're right. I guess that I'm always looking for a way to get more for my money. There's nothing wrong with that. At worst, you get a "no."
That is so true.....
If it was easier to find tournaments to fit your requirements (in terms of rating, %places filled, vacation allowed or not, etc.), then I assume more members would join them.
The big question is: would more members upgrade to premium membership so that they could join even more of these easier-to-find, matching-their-requirements tournaments?
Tourney search could definitely to with some enhancements. It is tedious to scan through several pages manually when a few more filters could get you straight to the required information. I find it much simpler to create my own tournament and send out a few invites than to spend ages looking for a suitable tournament that may or may not be there.
That's an appealing stategy. It does have the unfortunate consequence that there are increasing numbers of unfilled tournaments. But, without a powerful tournament-filter--selection-wizard, what else can you do?
