What can you say when some 18 year old, from Bermuda comes in and trolls a forum?

For all we know he could be the MrWizard alluded to in one of his earlier posts. Anyway, who cares what he thinks?  Leave him to have his little rant and if we ignore him, he'll crawl back under his rock.

Oh yeah, just for the record, if Wayne Guy had threatened me with legal action, he would have gotten one hell of a fright back.

Amazing how there are always two sides to a story!

I've noticed that you've recycled/reused this comment a few times in various forums...does this save you doing any thinking (thereby reducing global warming)?

Very laudable but also very embarrassing for you, I think.

If I was half the man I wish I was, I'd of made a witty retort about the Bermuda triangle and you disappearing, however, I've neither the self esteem or drive :)

Ach, I'm only teasing lad - jealous that you get 300+ days of sunshine. Although your probably sitting in a damp basement flat in Grimsby with pot noodle down yer chin :)

There might be some clues over there.  Bring a search warrant!

What's with all this fussing and fighting lately?

I played King_William in a tournament a little while back and he seemed like a cool guy to me, other than the fact that he beat me using the conditional moves in both games I think (a little embarrassing).

Honestly, given the fact that someone made a tribute thread to him and given the number of positive replys must say something about the guy.

Honestly Cret1n, lighten up. Internet is srs bsnss.

And I doubt anyone can belive that you're looking for a good chess community when you're just trolling with a 'holier than thou' attitude.

I really don't want to be a part of this debacle, but if people are going to ignore anyone who didn't like King_William for "personal attacks" and the like, consider the following exchange on the first page:

Feldmm1:

"<quoted text> Yeah, I did not really care for him either."

Evil_Homer:

"By the looks of things, he was a better chess player than either of you, Feldmm1 u too, and wasn't a free loading gobsh&%e, he contributed both monetarily and to a lot of people enjoyment of the forums.

He may not have been your cup of tea, but who cares."

I think it should at least be acknowledged that personal attacks in this thread are not limited to people who do not miss King_William - in fact, it seems from the first page that this ongoing conflict was mostly started by members closer to him, not even including personal messages alluded to in this thread.

It seems rational to let emotions out when someone claims they will not miss a friend of yours in a community, but from someone not strongly biased in either direction, this thread certainly makes him seem like more of a 'bully' by association with those most vehemently defending him.

Again, I do not wish to be a part of this, as I am not that familiar with King_William at all, but it seems that he contributed a fair amount of humor to the off-topic forum, as has been noted in this thread.  I suspect that members who did not read that forum would have a different perspective of him - it has also come up several times independently that he allegedly berated newer members in more game-related discussion.  As he had 1008 member points before all of his content was deleted, I imagine most members only saw a fraction of his posts, and could have wildly different views of the same person, thus creating the different reactions in this thread.

"The blind man who feels a leg says the elephant is like a pillar; the one who feels the tail says the elephant is like a rope; the one who feels the trunk says the elephant is like a tree branch; the one who feels the ear says the elephant is like a hand fan; the one who feels the belly says the elephant is like a wall; and the one who feels the tusk says the elephant is like a solid pipe.

A wise man explains to them: 'All of you are right. The reason every one of you is telling it differently is because each one of you touched the different part of the elephant. So, actually the elephant has all the features you mentioned.'"

Oh well. Darn, eh?

"I really don't want to be a part of this debacle"

... but I'll take the time to weigh in, as an objective observer of course. Oops.

Here's the thing. No one has to be rational about it - because there is no objective judgement going on. He was liked, by members of the community who make a point to post. If certain new members want to take a shot at someone already gone, so be it, but understand that you're taking a stab at the well-established collective of older members at the same time. Perhaps that doesn't bother you, perhaps you think your objective judgement is either invited or welcome. I don't care. I'm making a good list of people to never play from this thread. Thanks.

I'll just offer my vote in favour of King William.  I've only had good experiences having played him a couple of times and read his postings.  Bad luck if you received another reception.  Perhaps you might look back and see what caused it.  It might be a misunderstanding.  You might even have deserved it!  I'm not judging because I don't know.

King William is the TD of the Never Ending Tournament.  Does anyone know what will happen to the tourney if Billy Boy doesn't return?

Except the post I was referring to was on a completely different forum, not based on chess. :p

Well, considering the prior accusation missed the target by a mile and this post makes no sense to me, my feelings have remained somewhat unscathed.

It was not an "accusation," there was no "target" and I was not intending to provoke anybody.  If I sounded priggish, again I apologise.

"it has also come up several times independently that he allegedly berated newer members in more game-related discussion."

This allegation is totally unfounded, King William was not a "chess snob". He had far less to say on game related forums, being only an "improver" himself. William was prone to a certain "bluntness" due in part (I suspect) to English not being his mother-tongue, and a trait of his Afrikaner heritage (no slur intended). I played William ten times during our friendship and he was always a cheerful and gentlemanly opponent, his game etiquette was, in my opinion, near perfect.

:-D

There's certainly no need for an apology!
My reply was meant to be a clarification, not a defense.

Soooo,  if there's no attack and no defense. . . what's left?
Maybe a lesson for both of in how not to conduct an exchange?
