This allegation is totally unfounded, King William was not a "chess snob". He had far less to say on game related forums, being only an "improver" himself. William was prone to a certain "bluntness" due in part (I suspect) to English not being his mother-tongue, and a trait of his Afrikaner heritage (no slur intended). I played William ten times during our friendship and he was always a cheerful and gentlemanly opponent, his game etiquette was, in my opinion, near perfect.

That sounds entirely reasonable.  As I mentioned, I don't recall many posts by King_William, and there aren't any left for reference, but that could certainly account for a "bluntness" that could be easily misinterpreted by newer members.

It appears from testimony here that he was a great member of the community.  It's a shame that his departure brought out so much negativity from friends and foes alike.

What can you say when some 18 year old, from Bermuda comes in and trolls a forum?

For all we know he could be the MrWizard alluded to in one of his earlier posts. Anyway, who cares what he thinks?  Leave him to have his little rant and if we ignore him, he'll crawl back under his rock.

Oh yeah, just for the record, if Wayne Guy had threatened me with legal action, he would have gotten one hell of a fright back.

Amazing how there are always two sides to a story!

Just received a message from cre1n about my old mates mourning the loss of king_willi and doing the old 'pack-thugery-thing' on him. Several weeks ago I would have joined in with "good riddance"...as someone above suggested, but now that the smoke has cleared I wish we could concentrate more on what we have in common...at the very least a liking/passion for chess, while others seem to delight in written argument as well.

Come back Willi!  The 1st cyber-drink is on me!

I even bet that guys like the bush lawyer evil_homer, the ever inebriated Pistoleer, the very Reverand Rael and the 'look how clever I am' Batgirl  are actually good guys to hang with in the 'real world'. They seem to live and breathe Dumas' 'one for all & all for one' mentality, which aint all bad.

Just when he thought he was out.... we pull him back in.

careful willie.  you're going to fall off the wagon.

you want to post.... you want to play.... chess.com doesn't affect your personal life.... you get lots of work done while you play chess online...... these aren't the droids you're looking for...

Honestly Cret1n, lighten up. Internet is srs bsnss.

And I doubt anyone can belive that you're looking for a good chess community when you're just trolling with a 'holier than thou' attitude.

Maybe all the kw 'friends' are right. I probably should not have shone the light of objectivity on kw at his 'send-off'. I did tell the truth as I observed it and do regret my input a little...as kw must have some redeeming qualities that I never observed - like I said, I only noticed one thread which I alluded to above.

I guess my loathing for bullying and unfriendliness got the better of me on this occassion along with my disappointment that a newcomer has to be treated as 'non-friend' until one earns sufficient 'friendly-points' [the kohai incident]. I'm pretty much the opposite, and will befriend anyone here at chess.com immediately without fear or favor.

Now perhaps I should crawl back out into the light and be with my own kind rather than venture into places inhabited by those who see better in the dark than I.
