On chess.com I find that I have to repeat actions twice in order to get any effect - inputting moves, entering a comment in a vote chess discussion, or whatever. The first time nothing at all results, the second time the action does exactly what it should. I think it used to only be some things originally, but recently it has been pretty much everything.

Any theories why, or any ways to stop this problem? If necessary, I not, I suppose I should make a bug report.

very odd. your loading problems and your double-input stuff is concerning. have you tried switching browsers? have you done a malware sweep?

Yes, I have used Chrome and Chromium (a different fork). Did the malware sweep today, and found nothing. I would prefer not to have the problem of inputing things twice, but it is not a big problem.

One thing I have noticed is that if I start to create a post and someone else posts before I press the submit button, my post vanishes. Is this the same for everyone? If so could it be fixed?

[As an example of the main issue, this post did not appear when I submitted it the first time. I used the back button to get at the text I had lost, then I see only "save and preview" button active, not the submit button. After pressing this, the submit button does work]

Just testing input with Chromium rather than Firefox.

[Worked fine. It could be one of my Firefox add-ons. I'll try disabling some of them]

Trying Firefox with most add-ons switched off.

[Posted first time! That must be it]

Thanks. I hadn't realised such things could have an effect, but I will keep an eye on them.

Happens to me too, mostly with moves. I'm in Chrome, but I think it used to happen when I was still in the Darkness that is Firefox.

Still not quite sure which add-ons might have been causing the problem in Firefox, as the problem came back with some of them switched on. Switched off all of them, now. Will it post first time?

[Answer: yes]

Just Fasterfox enabled: ok

But with Noscript enabled, won't post at all.

My OS is Vista. Not great, but generally works ok. Not really plausible that it is a hardware issue, as it seems to be specific to chess.com. 4 gig memory, very underused CPU, so no problems there. I am not in a position to wipe and reinstall, but good idea.

First, running Firefox in safe move: posts first time.

Second, uninstalled most add-ons entirely: fails first time.

Uninstalled every add-on I can (still got 3 left disabled): works fine.....

Reinstalled a couple of more important plugins: not working first time. Why not? Oh well ...

Anyhow, seems to work fine with just fasterfox and noscript add-ons installed, which is good!

As of now, the problem has disappeared, after being present all the time for week after week before, (even with all add-on's switched off). Perhaps it's tempting fate to ask what has changed? Hurrah, anyway!

If anyone who is interested or has a similar problem is still following this, I suspect Avira Antivir caused the problem, as a major upgrade co-incided with the problem going away. Except occasionally when entering a turn-based move, and that just encourages me to have one last thought about my move. Smile
