I think for email chess there should be a simple check-box statement about computer move analysis. For example: I __will __ will not use a computer for move analysis. I believe that it's OK to consult the ECO or a games database for email chess. Personally, if I knew in advance an opponent would use a computer for move analysis I would decline. I already have a chess engine to play against.

i dont think for email chess anyone should be using outside help... i'd even consider referring to a book cheating during email chess unless both sides specifically agreed to allow book referencing

great suggestion. for now, NOBODY should be using ANY outside materials for email chess. perhaps in the future we will change that to allow for other options.

I can understand someone could refer to opening theory for the first few moves, but move analysis? What is the point in playing if you use a computer?? Do some people really play only to feel good about having a good rating?
