Just thought I would drop a line to say a quick 'hello' to everyone.

As the subject line says, I'm from the great City of Belfast, Northern Ireland, I'm 29 and in the way of chess, a complete and utter novice :)

If there is anyone brave enough to try to take me under their wing, I would be most appreciative.. for now, I'm going to hoke around the site and get my bearings.. speak to you all again

Thanks Jrobichess! I just looked at your youtube site etc.. well impressed! And it seems we are on the same kind of mission :) I might even try to maintain a blog of my progress (a smaller version of yours I think).

Welcome.  I'm 51 and didn't know anything about chess until a few months ago.  You'll find it a fascinating, fun and challenging game.  best wishes!

Welcome to the site! As far as being a novice to the game, there are many of us here. That's what makes the site so great, the number of beginners and experienced players all on the same site. You can learn a lot here, so stick around!
