I play risk online at another site and some of the smart cookies over there have written java scripts for  ' greasemonkey ' and the Firefox web browser.

Its kinda cool cos there are some neat tools you can install like a ' your move ' indicator that is on your browser page or even on your desktop etc..

any thoughts ?

sure! i'd love someone to do this :) we're just a little resource strapped while we get LIVE chess working. but i like that idea! still, i bet few people have greasemonkey installed. only 30% of our site uses firefox, and only some small % of them have greasemonkey, but EVERYONE wants Live Chess :)

yeah man I have greasemonkey, but I really do think chess.com should have some indication that it is your move in a game, say maybe, an obvious image that appears on the banner or something. Thereby, when I'm going through the forums, I don't have to check back to see if it is my move yet, it will be indicated at the top of the page.

There is an Alert java app that appears in the upper right corner of the website indicating when it is your move, or you have a message. This appears on any web-page within Chess.com so you may peruse the site and be notified it's your turn to move in comfort.

All of what you guys are talking about is a breeze to program in Javascript, using jax and Comet technology. BTW, Trickster, you don't need Greasemonkey, and you don't need to make it browser-specific. Ajax (XMLHttpRequest) works just fine on all modern browsers, and doesn't require the user to install JVM. In fact, IE was the first browser to implement XMLHttpRequest.

Erik - you could build the live chess using the  Comet concept, which is a faux-push method for Http. The underlying framework would also support site chat, which I noticed was requested in another post.

Haha the worse, is that google only gave me results in french at first, so I changed to "Firefox download" instead of just "firefox", and when I selected the page, I was sure it was in english... damnit, I've been reading too much in french and in english at the same time que je devient souvent confus et je ne me rend plus compte de la langue...
