I used to play on a chess network www.worldchessnetwork.com.  Gary Kasporov was even a member.  They had grandmaster banter games that you could sit in on and participate in discussions with the audience while the grandmasters would explain their moves to the audience.  It also had lectures.  So anyway, that was years ago.  About 6 months a ago at work we got this new security guard (he was really cool. even lived in the mountains with monks for years) who played chess.  He asked if I played and I told him I did.  I THOUGHT I was good bc I could beat everyone I knew.  Turns out I was ranked around 1200 and he about 1700.  We played every night at work.  Once he left I was hooked on chess again for the first time in years so I looked up worldchessnetwork but it no longer existed.  Then I found this site.  I was skeptical at first but have been in love with it ever since.  One suggestion to the people in charge though...

There should be a better explaination to new members that LIVE CHESS exists.  I almost gave up on this site bc I didn't know about live chess.  And I kept asking people, "I just want to play a normal game of chess...how can I do that?" and NO ONE would help me.  I had to find it on my own.  In my estimation we lose A LOT of people because they sign up and never find out that we have it.  I  do the Intro games for new players and 99% quit without even knowing that live chess is an option.  imo

Chess.com's Facebook chess application.  when I realized that 90% of my log-in to facebook was to play the chess...I decided to move on over here.

I use to play chess on come2play.com then I realized that 90% percent of the people on there ware half brain dead.  Started my quest for something better and found chess.com, the bringer of academic suicide, late nights (or early mornings if you like), and the addictive personality that I never knew I had... thank you chess.com FrownSmileFrownSmileFrownSmileFrownSmileFrownSmileFrownSmileFrownSmile

I was tired of trying to convince people to play chess with me, and Chess Titans (A chess game for vista) just isn't the same as playing against other people. A quick google search led me to this site.
