Oh!  Sorry.  There are lots of variations on it.  The only similarity is that they all start with "Holy".  I think the original was something like "Holy Christ".  It's used as an exclamation like "Oh God!"

But since people don't always want to say "Christ", some use "Holy Cow", or "Holy Mackerel" instead, but those are considered kind of goofy.  Does that answer your question?

While you're at translating "Holy Smoke, Batman!", kingchild, you may wish to translate some additional lines from the Batman shows, in order to become more familiar with the humour e.g.
Riddler: There were three men in a boat with four cigarettes and no matches. How did they manage to smoke?
Robin: "They threw one cigarette overboard, and made the boat a CIGARETTE LIGHTER!"

(I'll leave it to you to determine the reference source from which this came.)

Lol.  That was funny, but it sounds inside.  Do you two know each other?  Or is this a typical Brit vs. Spaniard deal?  If it is, sorry for being a Yankee.  Tongue out

You talkin' to me? [Taxi Driver] http://en.wikiquote.org/wiki/Batman_(1966)

If so: No, we don't know each other. We have crossed sabres a number of times in the forums. It is just a typical country_X vs. country_Y deal, I guess. (Where's Kissinger when you need him?)

Kissinger in his role as Secretary of State, was a globe-trotting, trouble shooter. He eased tensions between the U.S. and various states, most notably Russia and China. He got a Nobel Peace Prize for his efforts at defusing international arguments. I thought he might be useful in the forums.

In 1972, Bobby Fischer, intensely patriotic but reluctant to play due to a pathological fear of losing (as Edmonds and Eidnow recount in Bobby Fisher Goes to War), eventually did his duty as a cold warrior at the prompting of US national security adviser Henry Kissinger.  http://www.greenleft.org.au/2004/583/32473

Did you know? Although Kissinger was a frequent traveller, it is estimated that only 20% of Americans hold passports.  http://www.gyford.com/phil/writing/2003/01/31/how_many_america.php

I too have sometimes thought of inviting Kissinger to join the forums. But only when I think we need to bomb a small non-combatant nation, or engineer a military coup against a democratic government, say.

er...possibly getting a little off topic here...

Wow, Sasha's right, I've got a lot of comments to catch up on here.  Smile

Regarding the "Holy..." Batman quotes, check out this link:

http://www.usfamily.net/web/wpattinson/otr/batman/shoholy.htm

As far as my movies go, I doubt you've seen anything yet.  The biggest movie was 61* which was on HBO and can be found in your local video store, but I was just an extra in that one.  So there's only one scene that you can see me, but you can see me really well.  It was so cool going down to the Fox Theater for the Premiere and seeing myself larger than life on the big screen.  For those not from Detroit, the Fox Theater is the ritziest entertainment venue in the Detroit Area.  SUPER fancy!!  SUPER cool!!

My biggest role was in Long Live the Dead, which you can order at the link Diana posted (thanks Diana).  Most recently I was the title character in a short film called The Silencer which won 1st Place and Best Use of Character in the Detroit-Windsor International Film Festival this year.  I am working on getting a copy in a format that I can post online at YouTube, MySpace, AtomFilms, etc.  I will be putting it on my profile here as soon as I can, so hopefully you'll be able to see it very soon.

If you go to www.MySpace.com/Billium248 you'll enter the world of Billiumania where you can find links to my film projects like Long Live the Dead, Count Billula, Blood Games, Guns, Drugs, and Dirty Money, Black Eagle, Super Zombies, as well as my old band Serious Jester (I was the drummer).

Thanks IrishMike for showing me someone else who's average time per move is also over 23 hours.  However, at the moment Jhaber37 is at 23 hours 15 mins and I'm at 23 hours 21 minutes.  You said he was down to 3 hours in a 3 day time control, and I just made moves in 2 games that were down to less than one hour on a 7 day time control.  Actually, I had gone past my 7 days and my auto-vacation kicked on to save me from timing out.  That's so bad!!  I so suck!!

I have a passport and I've actually used it too!  I guess that puts me in the top 20%.
