You make it sound like making the Live Chess feature is like cooking dinner in a microwave; just set the timer and wait until it's done. But surely it's not like that, is it? If it's done in 2 hours, it's also done now, and if it's not done yet now, then it also won't be done in 2 hours Tongue out

But sure, why not make Chess.com wait a little longer so they get more excited Wink

I just tried the Live Chess demo and I like it. Its well done like most things on here. It's going to be a sucess for sure. I don't like Blitz so I'll stick to correspondence, but if its your thing you will love it.

O noes! I just tried to log into the live chess beta and I couldnt! Im willing to bet its because of my dialup connection and not a bug or anything, but still kind of depressing.....

It was pretty cool! I like it!!

I played Blitz for the first time in my life, and it is wayyyy different than regular chess game. Pretty Cool though...

My experience:

With my dial-up connection, the loading took some time. I noticed some hesitation or drag in moving the pieces. This wouldn't be much of anything in a standard time control, but in a blitz game, where even seconds count, it's more relevant. It probably won't happen at all with broadband connections.

The layout is clean and uncluttered. I found the controls obvious and easy to use. I really like the board (in the default size). The graphics aren't fancy, but they're clean and sharp, easy on the eyes, with just enough contrast - a perfect example of less being more.

There are many choices of styles of chessmen and board colors. I would like to see a test page where one could go and examine each of these colors and styles before playing.

I played Erik one game at 5/0, an interesting game too, considering the short time control. I lost on time. I'm not sure if I was playing that slowly, or if my dial-up connection had something to do with it. I assume there's a time-stamp of some sort.

I also played with Eric and lost on time. I played using explorer and I too noticed that it was dragging a little bit. However, it most likely is a problem with my explorer setup. I also tried with Opera, which is is typically quite faster than explorer on this site. Unfortunately Opera did not work with live chess...

I think overall the players with faster connections and optimized browsers/computers may have a small edge in some cases. But that may be expected...

After playing a lovely first game of blitz chess, which was great, I couldn't figure out how to get a PGN file of this game.

As great as it is to play blitz, it's even greater to be able to review all your awful moves ;)

I just played a few games and it worked wonderfully.  Great for a few quick games here or there.

The Ajax code and the IGoogle drag'n drop/resize windows features give to live.chess.com a very friendly and nice looking style.

Didn't had the chance to actually play a game, but i'm very impress with what i've seen so far.

As a programmer myself, i can say that you guys are doing a WONDERFULL job!!!

Congratulations To Erik and all his team!!

When I clicked on the link the page loaded fine but I also got a pop-up "object error". I couldn't close the pop-up or close the page. I'm on dial-up IE 7

I really don't think an applet would be appropriate. To stay fully compatible with all user's browsers and their configurations, they should really continue with their Ajax/Dhtml engine and fix the small issues some of you found so far.

At work on a T1, Live Chess is fluid and incredible. At home on a 768K DSL line it wasn't so hot so I can only imagine what dialup must be like. Clearly, its aimed at the full DSL/ Cable crowd.

How about a downloadable client for playing blitz, instead of in our browsers?
