Hello Chess.com fans,

I would like to start a discussion about chess.com the premium membership model versus advertisement (more info: http://www.chess.com/premium.html). So, leave here your opinion and let's help chess.com team which model to use.

I vote for ads. I don't care seeying ads if they don't slowdown the website or changes the usability. What do you think?

I'd rather pay a small amount than have intrusive ads any day...

to me it depends on what the cost for premium membership is.

We will have a choice as in pay or ads? Or maybe put some tasteful ads and reduce them/remove them for premium members?

I'm not particularly fussed, but if advertisements can fund the site, and give the developers a decent return on their investment, both financially and timewise, then I'm all for it.

if the advertisements are tasteful - and appropriate for the page that i'm on - they can also be helpful.

i don't mind being advertised to if the promotion in discussion is relevant to my interests.  in fact, it could be conveniant.    i know this is rarely the case, but it's true enough of the time to warrant them.  (if done properly.   ;-)  )

overall - i don't mind contributing a small fee.  after all - this site is getting better and better - and it's a wonderful resource to study and enjoy this game.

it is clear that lots of time has gone in to its creation and maintenance - so people ought to be rewarded accordingly.  at least something...

bravo! and thanks.

if you want ads, then you won't pay. if you don't want ads, you will be able to subscribe to remove ads.

Interesting. And what about the premium features? Will I be able to see it if I don't pay a membership but accept to see ads?

premium benefits include:

>moving your pawn three spaces not two on the first move

>taking back moves (up to two turns)

>sending racy pop-up ads to your opponent to try to distract him, or her.

>exciting new pieces like "The Interloper" that combines the moves of a Knight and Bishop

>how about a return to position ______ option Cool

Personally, I'm sold on the site. I want it to be free, so I'm glad there will (may?) be a choice, but I will probably pay the fee myself. Mostly just out of thanks for the site.

I vote for ads because I don't think a small fee would be able to generate enough money for the developers of the site and if they keep the fee high then there might not be enough subscribers. Bottomline as long as the ads are tasteful and rightly placed on the site (not popups/popunders or annoying), I will go for it.

Speaking of premium benefits, it would be worth paying to have additional Kings on the board so that just in case one gets traped, you let it die and continue playing with the spare King(s).

Please don't get too many moving ads. I came here from pogo because all the ads kept freezing up my games.
