Count on it. Make very sure you also take care of yourself too. This is heavy. If you remain strong, it helps everybody around you. Prayin' for both of you.

Thank you all for your support.  It means a lot to me.

He is now breathing on his own, which is a great sign!!

We're not out of the woods yet, but he's in better shape today than he was yesterday.  Hopefully my next update will be equally encouraging.

Thanks again for all the prayers and well wishes.

Surely in my prayers tonight.

You have to be strong for him and embrace him. WHEN he feels better, literally hold your father and tell him how you feel.

My dad has just had to have a double bipass and it can really shake you up when your olds dont look as invincible as you have always thought....

Ive dealt with suicide before aswell and as much as you think god is gonna help im here to tell you he probably wont. Sounds like he needs professional help and support from friends and family more than anything else....

  Stay strong

That's horrible news! But it's good to hear he's breathing on his own now... Hope he gets well soon! Smile

However, since the issue has been raised, I have to say I agree with eBusiness. Reading the posts of Annabelle and bcooke1234 above, it is obvious that Rael's comment -"A few people saying they'll pray for someone does not equal "religious zealotry" or "propaganda"- is a bit off the mark.

It is posts such as these, rather than eBusiness's, which have no real place in such a thread. They are blatant propaganda, nothing else - others have managed to post simply that they'll pray for his father, or wish him well, or add constructive comments without pushing the 'Jesus saves' nonsense.

I'm curious - who forced you to click on the link? To read the comments?

The title of the thread is "My dad's in the hospital!! Please pray for him!!"

If you're soooo opposed and spooked by the sentiment then, well, feel free not to come in the thread?

Honestly, have we come so far that one guys innocent request can't be honored without these internet atheists having to pop in and give their two cents?

Have we gotten so PC as a society that one guy being like "Hey guys, this is upsetting, please pray" is now considered to be an opportunity for people to come out and tell the internet how they feel about prayer?

"A bit off the mark", "blatant propoganda"... goodness, I'm sorry your thin sensitivities were prickled by a few people expressing support for someone.

If this thread gets locked because of the stink raised by people who "can't help but protest" the most mild of human kindness, that's a damn shame.

Haha you know what's funny? I bet you're an advocate of free speech too, Streetfighter. Unless you disagree with it, in which case it's propoganda you can't stand for, right?

Billium's thread has been sullied enough. Champion your viewpoint elsewhere, and let people wish he and his father well.

/"Oh nooo, somewhere out there on the internets some people are saying they will pray! I'd better tell everyone just how opposed to that I am! Yes, that will make me feel much better! I can't help but speak up and express my vigorous protest to the very notion! Oh the world will be a much better place when I log my opposition on the internets! It's propoganda, that's what this is! And I won't stand for it! No, I cannot let this innocent thread slide by without expressing my immence discomfort that other people are expressing religious sentiment! Of all the travesties I can defeat today, I, internet hero, choose this one! Time to type!..."

 Rael

Your offensiveness does you no favours. Try reading posts and responding to the particular points raised rather than indulge in these (frankly pathetic) sarcastic attacks.

If you don't like what is being said then no-one's forcing YOU to read the posts. Sadly, I rather suspect that you're full of glee at the opportunity to pour forth your righteous condemnation of anyone who dares to question SOME posters' motives - as evidenced by your lengthy rant earlier followed by the afterthought, 'Oh yeah, sorry to hear that Billium'.

If this post gets locked it's because certain people couldn't come in here and post a simple message of support, but instead had to go over the top with their religious happy-clapping supported by Rael-the-self Righteous.

If people, myself included, decide to pull you up on that then tough - deal with it and learn some manners while you're at it.

Well if it helps them to sleep soundly, live and let live I say.

He is doing much better now.  He's still in ICU, and we're not out of the woods yet, but he is awake and talking now.  We watched a couple movies together in his room.  The doctors are encouraged by his physical recovery, but they're still worried about him mentally.  Thank you for all the encouraging messages!!

I'm praying as I type, Hope all is well Billie, Don't mean to sound trite, but God works ALL things together for good. Be anxious for nothing, and fear not, coz no matter what , he's with you & your Dad.

p.s Your post is most appropriate in a community of friends

God bless

love
