Did anyone see this?

http://www.chess.com/home/view_message.html?id=166682320

I looked in the forums to see if an exact description is available but I didn't find anything, which could be because I'm stupid Embarassed so I am willing to accept any enlightening links or info. I am just curious what this new automated fair play thing is.

TadDude

First described here.

No testimonials of success yet.

Ah, thank you very much. From there I found this in the FaQ's

http://support.chess.com/Knowledgebase/Article/View/171/13/fair-play-policy

Has anybody felt the affects of this policy yet? And is there a way to become cognizant of your 'score' so to speak?

erik

just don't be rude with the clock and you will be fine :)

kohai

Its automatic

Thanks for the responses.

If the details of this were given, the abusers would stand just barely on the legal side of the line.

I agree, I should be able to use my time as I see fit, and not sit around waiting for some clown to time out.

I got this warning recently in a game in which I won with 3 queens, all the other guy had left was his king. If you are going to 'protect' that person right to battle on with one king against a whole army then you should allow people the same right of using their time and pieces as they see fit!

There's no rule against playing on; the rule is against letting your time run unecessarily. So if your opponent is playing on with a lone King against 7 Queens, and you decide to start letting your clock run down for a while before mating him, you're the one in violation of the Fair Play Policy - not him.

It seems you missed my point, which is they are all componets of the game. Position, pieces, time, etc....please note in the example I gave I did not let the clock run down, I only had "too much firepower".  Again, that person agreed to play which includes all compoents of the game, they can always resign if they are in a losing position and worried about there "time".You are placing that persons right to be a jack@$$ above my right to be one as well when what I did is just as with in the rules as what they did!

I didn't miss your point at all. The rules have nothing to do with being an ass. The rules are very specifically targetted at people who let time run unecessarily off of your clock. If you received a warning about this rule, then it seems fairly clear that you did in fact sit there and let time run off your clock. If your defense is that if he's going to waste your time by not resigning than you can waste your time by letting the clock run out, that is not correct.

Loomis

It would be nice if the person on the receiving end of this abuse got a message regarding their opponent being warned ("In your game Loomis vs. Inconsiderate, your opponent received a warning for unsportsmanlike conduct"). Otherwise, we still feel like these jerks are getting away with it.

TheOldReb

The players who are not jerks ( ever ) in play wont be worried about any fair play policy used. The only players overly concerned about any fair play policy used are telling on themselves.... Wink

I played this guy a few games ago in a 15 min game, He had me in a bad position with about 9 mins to go. he sat there for 8 mins did nothing so I threw every road block at him sacking my pieces until he ran out of time. them he had the hide to abuse me.

From the chess.com help file:

If your account is flagged for breaking this policy your account will be restricted. You will still be able to play games with friends or accept direct challenges, but you will not be able to create or accept open challenges until you play more games that follow the fair play policy.

So play some direct challenges and with friends until the restrictions are lifted.

Your most recent lost games indicate opponent won - game abandoned.

Looks like the people with an unreliable internet connection will also be penalized.

some of my opponents let their clocks run out, something like 12 minutes or so; in that case, I inform my opponent that i'm watching, in a separate browser, Just For Laughs videos in Youtube (which I actually do while waiting).  Laughing and getting entertained is my remedy for those who think they annoy me by making me wait for nothing.  JFL to the rescue! :)
