I just created a tournament with chess960, I tried to join, but it says you must complete a minimum of 5 games? I've played much more than that...

scarblac, it's telling you how many times you've had the position that results from a move, rather than telling you how many times you've played a particular move in a particular position. this is an improvement over the previous way: in general this is a more useful piece of info. for example if you entered c4 nf6 into our database previously it would tell you that only 3000 games came from the move 2.d4, which confused people.

i want to play fischer random! i'm really excited. anyone up for a game?

There is a new bug in Game Explorer :-(

In my own games as Black, after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Bb5, it says I played 3...Nf6 three times, and this is true. But after that move, it says 4.d3 and 4.Bxc6 happened once each, and 4.Nc3 happened twice!

The thing is that the position after 4.Nc3 also happened once after 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.Nc3 Nf6 4.Bb5.

So the position after 4.Nc3 happened twice, but the move was played in the position after 3...Nf6 only once!

it's not about moves... it's about positions!

It's going to lead to odd effects though. I haven't thought of an example yet, but there must be positions (where one side has done something wrong), where there's one move that punishes the mistake (played as often as the mistake itself), and one move that transposes back to the main line, that will show as being played much more often.

Unfortunately you don't have a game in the database that goes 1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 d6 3.Nxe5??

If you did have one, it'd show that 3...dxe5 was played once, and 3...Nf6 6400+ times (transposing to the Petroff).

Now that I think about it more, I realize that when I used Bookup, I liked to calculate uncandidates wherever possible -- and that is exactly the same thing as this.

So this is, indeed, a feature and not a bug! :-)

Great new features, by the way. :-)

BTW:

the image of the chess 960(http://cdn-images.chesscomfiles.com/images/960challengeblack.gif) looks extremely weird

and if i changed my settings for board display(3d-pieces or board or something like that,)i want to see the image instead of the book chess set and green background

also, why in this game:

http://www.chess.com/echess/game.html?id=22993986

both players has a rating of 1200 when it shouldn't?

I have a few questions regarding stats? For example, will there be a separate tournament leaderborad for 960 tournaments? separate player rating? and so on...

great new feature, by the way and congratulations for the good work...what would be great would be an option to see only 960 tournaments and so on.it took me quite a while to browse through all the upcoming tournaments to find kokino's one

960 has its own ratings different the the normal standard online game and once a 960 game has ended, it has a small 960 icon by it in the games history so you can tell the difference between standard and 960

Found a problem. In a Chess 960 correspondence game, no alert appears in the alerts box when it is your move.

wow thanx for removing low quality games from Game Explorer, I was really waiting for it :)

960.. AWSOME, but I will play only unrated 960 games. I want my rating to reflect only standard chess playing strength. It would be cool to create an additional 960 rating though.
