When we get a notice for a new My Tracked Activity comment it would help if somehow it could show who's comment is new, the way is it now is we must scroll through all friends' tracked comments to see which comment is the new tracked comment.  Perhaps it could show the comment in a different color-this could save a lot of time.

Can I maybe get some help?

I'm not sure I understand, but... The Alert for a "new comment" is really just a prompt to check the "New Comments" table on your home page; there, you will see links to any items you are tracking that have new (unread by you) comments, and those links should take you directly to the first new comment.

Likewise, if it's an Alert about new content from a member you are tracking, you will see that on your Home page also - at the top of the "My Tracked Activity" list.

You've got to stop with the lame insults Billy, you are an Electrician and you are making everyone think all Electricians are Buffoons.

Yes it does prompt a new tracked comment but I have a list of friends who have tracked comments, and I can't tell who's specific tracked comment it is when prompt to the whole list.

But you're saying the new tracked comment is the one on top of all tracked coment list?

Right. It doesn't matter if it's "New Comments" or new "My Tracked Activity," the relevant tables on your home page will show you the most recent stuff.

The only difference is that the "My Tracked Activity" list always shows a list of recently posted stuff (most recent at the top) whether you've seen it or not, whereas the "New Comments" list only ever includes stuff you haven't seen.

So once you load the page with the new comment on it, it's removed from the list on your Home page (the next time your home-page is reloaded).

I've always found the implementation of the new tracked content alerts a little clumsy.

I tend to agree. Of course, if it's just the Alerts part that gets you, they can be disabled without any effect on the other info shown on your home page. I'd guess the days are numbered for the "big yellow box," although nothing concrete yet in terms of plans to phase out or replace it.

Personally I prefer the "counter" approach, a la Facebook, Springpad or Google+

I like getting the alerts, I don't like how they work -- in particular, the interaction between the alerts and the new content table (stuff dissapears from the latter without clearing from the former, for example).

I like the "counter" approach as well, as long as it interacts properly with the new content table.

Sure, but what would characterize proper interaction?

Right now, any percieved interaction between the Alerts display and the contents of the "New Comments" or "My Tracked Activity" tables is technically coincidental.

The Alerts are sometimes a little slow (one page reload) recognizing that you *have* seen a particular piece of content - is it as simple as addressing that?

It may be, and in some cases I'm certain that it is.  Sometimes, though, I'm pretty sure I've read the content, and it's dissapeared from the table, but the alert persists

Yes, that's very possible, I think. Ok, good notes. :)

How long can someone be on three months' holiday before it says something different?

    That's a leading question -- three months?
