I prefer the old layout. The old layout I think was a nicer combination of contrast to read a little better (If I remember I think there were beige or dark yellow backgrounds mixed with white spacing). This layout has a little too much white... that works okay on a sheet of paper, but it's a little too bright and looks more plain and spaced out... I thought the dark yellow windows for text was a nicer contrast.

I also dislike the new live chess indicators.... now I notice if someone is in live chess, there is either a green or orange square... a square? It used to be a nice symbol with a radar antenna to show they are online, and I thought that was much more nicer.

I also notice there doesn't seem to be as many navigation links in this layout, maybe because I'm still getting used to the new layout... but if I remember, I think the old layout had more backtracking and navigation links to navigate all over better, this layout I find myself manually using my back, forward, and refresh keys on my own browser more often.

If it's not broke, don't fix it, I like the old layout... or maybe you can make it dynamtic and offer users to pick which layout they see when they log in.

Quitting groups.  I cannot find the button.  Where is it moved?

Older versions of Firefox (around 3.6) are not compatible with the forums. I cant post comments. Had to switch browsers.

I've said this before, but the old layout was much nicer. Less white. Easier to read and navigate.

And one thing the new design hasn't fixed - lag cheats in live chess.

You could change that in the old layout.

Click your screen name at the top and go to themes. You can pick someones, or edit it yourself there.

I think the background color for beige is #F5F5DC

For trophies, it would be nice to have either mouse-over text or in-page text for who gave it or what event the trophy was won in.

Now if there was only somebody here who cared what we think.

In the old design I don't remember a single case where Tactics Trainer did not have the "View Analysis & Source" page. I have now checked my most recent 20 or so problems, and none of them has it.

Can someone name a problem where the analysis IS there?

    saksipotku wrote:

No, brusselsshrek, each tactics trainer problem has never had a View Analysis & Source page, if that's what you mean. I think that at least out of those problems that I face, about 70% had that page in the old design, and about 70% still do.

Like I said above (or in a different thread?), open up the Analysis Board. We've integrated the analysis data there so you can play it out as you read it.

OK, now I understand what you've done, and I'll tell you: you've made it worse.  Now the "Analysis & Source" link is NOT on the initial page, but is only visible when you enter Practice Mode.

For example, the following is the tactics page:

    http://www.chess.com/tactics/server.html?id=34468

In the past this used to have an "Analysis & Source" link.  No longer.  It only has "Try this problem" and "Show solution".  I don't want either of these, I want to see the "Analysis & Source".

This is now only available on:

    http://www.chess.com/tactics/server.html?id=34468&practice=1

With the old format it was pretty clear where it was.

With the new format, I have not been able to find it for a month, and have spent many forum posts trying to find out where it has gone.

    This is not progress.

Aha! Quite right. We'll add it back to the basic (non-training) problem-view ASAP. Thank you!

I also agree that the Analysis & Source has been valuable in the Tactics Training, so it'll be valuable to add it back!

Re the team vote chess page: it would be helpful to have an indicator ahowing whose turn it is, as in ordinary turn-based games.

I liked the old "SEND A TROPHY" page better.  Trophies at the top, message at the bottom.  It was easier to manipulate.

In the player statistics on the Online Chess home page (love those stats, BTW!), I think it would be great if we could show recent "Time/Move" (e.g., over the last 90 days) instead of, or even better in addition to, Time/Move over the entire course of the player's chess.com lifespan.  Can you do this?

Click "Start Training" from Chess Mentor, and you begin training in a new window.  Start training from Tactics Trainer, and you begin training right there in the same window.  The Tactics Trainer behavior is new since the site redesign, and it's no longer consistent with Chess Mentor's behavior.

I'd like to see the two behave in the same way, whichever way it goes, because the inconsistency annoys me.  I'd strongly prefer to see Tactics Trainer revert to opening the problem in a new and separate window, like Chess Mentor's former and current behavior.

If in doubt about which way to go, you could always throw another configuration option on the fire.  Configuration bloat is an unavoidable consequence of having too many blasted users.  I hate users sometimes.  Software is so much easier to design without their whining, don't you think?

Chess Mentor will be shortly integrated (no pop-out) as Tactics has already been.

I just noticed I can't use "live chess" anymore, because it soaks up all my computer's processor power and lags so much it takes up to 20secs to respond when I click a button.

Not sure if this is the correct Forum for posting this, but I have a suggestion for Chess Mentor (a wonderful feature, BTW!). I wish there were a bit more information (context) within each Lesson window. Specifically, I'd like it to show (1) the rating of the current Lesson; and (2) where this Lesson stands within the Course (e.g., "Lesson 12 of 24").

Any chance the chess.com genie can fulfill these wishes?

We used to simply click with the mouse on the top left of any page to access the main chess.com page and see all of the news for the day.

This not work anymore and I have not yet found out how to access the main chess.com page.

Has it been removed and if not how do I access it?

Clicking on the Chess.com logo at upper left still takes you to the site's main page. We're going to be changing the layout of this page shortly, to make it a bit more similar to the pre-redesign version. As such, it will show more links to recent content.

And here's still one issue: when you put your cursor over a player's name, it should show some information about him/her, precisely last online, points, rating, and trophy showcase. I think these should all be neatly in a white square that opens above your cursor. However, at least with my Internet Explorer, the left hand side information lacks correct alignment, goes all messy, and is displayed below the white box, while the right hand side information is in the box just as it should be.

I had the same problem till I clicked the "compatibility wiew" icon by the address bar next to the "refresh" icon
