Well, sorry for my tart reply, but I was just "harping" on how the site was just fine the way it was....not looking for tech support....it just still seems unfamiliar after a month....maybe I'm just gettin' old...

    like myself.

i just can't get used to it

kco: "why not ? what do you find it so hard about it ? I didn't like it for a few days myself and by then I am ok with it."

It's kinda like I was driving a '75 Cadillac at a comfortable cruising speed...all straight aways, no curves.....then all of a sudden I'm behind the wheel of a 2012 Porsche driving the roads of the French Riviera at 150km per hour....trying to get used to all the buttons and switches at the same time...I'll be OK....I'm just less patient than when I was younger....remember this...you will be where I'm at one day...hopefully...cheers.

I think the proper comparison would be nicely cruising along on a German Highway (without speed limits :p) in a comfortable sedan, versus being thrown on an Alpine road with hairpins in a rally-car with a sequential gearbox.

Driving an Alpine road at speed can be fun, surely, but whatever your car, you get to damn near a screetching halt for a hairpin or you wont make it, and a sequential gearbox will slow you down for a long time. It takes ages to get used to something like that.

Also, the car suddenly lacks baggage space and legroom, which appears to be a permanent feature :s.

    Great analogy, Dr. Phil.... :)))

That's because the boot is already overladen, causing the terrible handling

Interesting, Paul211... If you start here - http://www.chess.com/home/my_archive.html - the default selection on the drop-menu is "Recent Games" and that seems to be the only option where the Download PGN feature is hidden!?

I'll look into it. But for the time being, if you change that setting to "Online Games" or something, you'll again see the controls required to get the PGN.

    Thanks

Ok, the issue is that we can't mix Live and Online games into one PGN download at this time. "Recent Games" is such a mix. Like I said, maybe go to the Online Games option first to get your data.

Once again we come back to this decision to mix Live on Online games. Did anyone actually ask for this?

I certainly see no benefit in such a "blend"... apart from the site owners being able to brag that they have x million games in their database.

So we all have to put with this, without being asked, without being given a timetable and without having questions answered...for bragging rights?

Not against new-ideas in general but the overcomplication of the chess-browsing & navigation-features is (let's be honest) a total-disaster & detrimental to site-functionality.

We are not babies & don't need picture-chessboards & information scattered over 3 different-pages. We need one page with quick & simple access to chess-in-progress,stats,explorer & games-archive.

And whilst '' Live-Chess '' has been promoted vigorously last 6-months or so no business mixing this up with serious-chess.

Whilst browsing games keep coming across the following statement :

    user1_username is currently on vacation!
    "Will be back soon"

What does this mean ? & How do I identify which of the players is on vacation ??

This is just a suggestion. It would be cool, if on "all stats", you could find a worse loss, instead of just a best win.

Oh God no, that would be embarrassing!!!  ^_^

oddly there is a worst loss in the demo stats shown to free members...

its not unreasonable to expect things to NOT change for the worse when you have paid a subscription one year in advance !

Haha!  That will have to get fixed!

Todays glitch (& the site was '' offline for maintenance '' for 1/2 hour) is that subsequent to editing my profile all the other (unrelated to simple text-edit) has vanished !

Keep saying this but the more complications that are added to this site then there seems to be a corresponding increase in IT errrors.

Really (and am not joking) this should be tested on '' mirror-site '' first prior to implementation.

It was tested on a "mirror site", just not sufficiently.

Well silly overcomplication. One thing at a time (then de-bug) surely ?

The trouble with de-bugging is that once it is complete, there'll be next to nothing left on the site!

This really has gone on for far too long now (7 weeks!!!), and i'm obviously not the only one who is fed up with it:-(
