P.S the bug of 'my move' alerts not popping up on my homepage doesn't bother me.. like I said a while back I don't find them necessary when I can see at a glance at my games list what games I need to move in and in what order, so I wasn't complaining about the bug, just making staff aware of it. :)

Hey, everyone. I think what you are seeing is just a rounding change in the displayed time. In the case of 3-day games, you will now see it display "3 days" until the time gets below 60 hours (2.5 days). This is more accurate than displaying "2 days" remaining when it is just one second below 72 hours.
The clocks of every game that we've investigated are working correctly, so you should not be concerned. Sorry for the confusion.

In lists of players for matches in registration, could we please have numbers down the lh side? It's really a pain having to physically count large blocks of entries every time one needs to know how many players currently are registered.

my 1 day/move games stayed at 24 hours for a couple of hours...

When I click on Details it used to give the time remaining in days and hours. Is this also gone to "rounding" and if so, why give up the prior accuracy? Bad idea in my opinion.

At one time, tournaments that I had participated in, but had not moved on to the next round, showed up on my tournaments page. Chess.com made a change ( I assume) and these tournaments did not appear. Now, they are appearing again. I would rather not have these tournaments show up on my list. Is there a setting somewhere to change this behavior?
I agree.. what was the benefit of rounding off?
One more point on Time Remaining. If you are going to hours remaining, why wait until 2.5 days? Why not start at 72 then 71 etc?

Thanks for telling us about this change here!
I am afraid that this is a critical change that may lead to tricking people into unexpected losses on time:
So far, people have been used to and relying on all times being rounded off. "4 days" meant 4 days or more, 24 hours meant 24 hours or more.
Now, "4 days" seem to be meant to indicate 3.5 days or more, and "24 hours" seem to indicate 23.5 hours or more.
People looking at these time indications, planning when to be back to make their moves, may be back half a day late because of this change, losing their game on time.
So it seems to me that:
* this change is critical and will lead to some losses on time at least until people have gotten used to the new intended meaning
* the deeper meaning of the old method of rounding off all numbers was that if it said you have 4 days left, then you really do have 4.0 days left (or more), and not less. So the new method may not only need getting used to during a transition time, but it may also be less intuitive to use and rely on even for all new users.
So while the new rounding method may seem "more accurate" for mathematicians, the old rounding method is the relevant one for practical chess players.
By the way, note that also over the board, any digital chess clock uses the method of displaying only rounded-off numbers. So that you always have at least as much time left as is displayed by the clock, never less.

I've seen clock time displayed in hours even seconds, waiting til half a day go by seem crazy & inaccurate

Not good !
I think the lacking of those 12 hours is a MESS for many.

I strongly disagree. To say there is 3 days remaining when there is only 61 hours remaining is flat out wrong. Truthful information should be the top priority, you should never round up. I recently went on a weekend camping trip and carefully made sure that I had enough time before my next move in 4 different games. How could I do that if I'm purposefully given the wrong time? (Yes, the correct answer is to move just before I leave, but you get the idea.)
Maybe this could be a perk for paid members. We get to see our real, actual time remaining, while free members get to see their actual time remaining, plus or minus twelve hours. What was wrong with showing the days and hours like it used to?
Hi bcurtis.. So if the rounding off on the clocks was deliberate, is the removal of the team match alerts on our profiles a bug or also deliberate? Not that it matters to me but for those who do care about having them there. :)

So once again we have a material change which we are not asked about in advance, which we are not warned about when it happens, and which is only explained when people complain.
Whether this is a good idea or not, does this sound like good customer service?

Erik, a question?
Ok, please...go ahead : )
i have asked, and asked, and am asking again, when can i restart my Google chrome, without it crashing ?... i am not trying to be mean, but when your website crashes the best web browser out there for this site, it should be delt with.. you can please answer me here, or if you would like, i can have assemblyman berryhill's office call, and then you will have to answer to a higher authority.
I think the fact of the matter, is, that u cant make it the same quality as it was befor, so u have to change the features so you don't infringe on somebody elses copyrights. thats why the times change3,the layouts change, the browsers crash,... you said you did this change for the better, so where is the better at?
Honesty goes along ways, but Denial, will soon be apparent.
please fix the "Aw Snaps", and give me a time frame for fixing my browser

Did the computer analysis always show "Play might have continued..." after a checkmate, and show that same same checkmating move as a variation? Seems like the wrong thing to do. The screenshot is taken from AFTER I advance the cursor to step into the checkmate move, not before.
I'll try to address all the clock issues brought up...
We did not warn you about this change because it took us a bit by surprise. It was written last August as part of the site-translation project. Due to various things, it did not become active until Wednesday; by then, we had forgotten the change in rounding. Because we missed the discussion beforehand, we're listening now and you can help improve this by pointing to specific examples and solutions.
Part of the reason for rounding is that in many ways of viewing that page (mobile, Facebook, etc.), there is not enough room to display more than one unit of time next to the player's name — either days, or hours, or minutes, but never a combination. So we want that one unit to be as close to the real time as possible.
This method is more useful in the 2.5-day vacation problem, since the previous method would only tell you "2 days" when in fact you had almost 3. The previous method shifted from displaying days to displaying hours at less than 2 days. Would it be more useful to display hours for anything less than 3 days / 72 hours?
The point made about "at least this much time left" is solid, but this same system is also used when we want to display the opposite "no more than this much time" elsewhere. I'll need to compare these issues a little to find the balance.
The loss of hours on the "details" display appears to have been done recently, and I'll need to look into that further to find out why and I'll post here.
We do not see a reason for a 1-day/move game to display "24 hours" for many hours, and we can't find an example. If you see that again, can you please post a link to your game so we can investigate?
Thanks for all your feedback. You're helping to make chess.com better!
